Businessman Offers $1 Million to Keep Terri Schiavo Alive - On Hannity & Colmes tonight
Blogs for Terri ^ | March 9, 2005 | Blogs for Terri

Posted on 03/10/2005 2:44:18 PM PST by bboop

Update: The businessperson who, through attorney Gloria Allred, has offered Michael Schiavo a million dollars to walk away will be on Hannity & Colmes tonight, Thursday - March 10, 2005 at 9.00pm ET (GMT-5).

Although the actual headline reads "comatose woman," and since Terri Schiavo is not comatose, I've made the appropriate correction in the title of this post, nevertheless, the headline is interesting. But I doubt it will have much of an affect on Michael Schiavo since he can't spend the money in jail should Terri receive therapy and recover sufficiently to tell us how she sustained all of those broken bones. Until and unless he accepts the offer, it's a just another new whisper in the wind.

Very interesting indeed and why do they keep saying she is comatose when she isn't.

If nothing else its going to gnaw at Michael to have to turn down that money. I think he is afraid to have her remain alive in case she eventually speaks again, so he will need to turn down all that money

THIS is a brilliant manuever.

It sure is. I was at the dentist this afternoon when the decision came through about not interfering with pulling the feeding tubes. I just can't believe how much certain people want her dead. The hygienist who says she hadn't really followed the case (yet she did know Terri's last name) couldn't believe it either and thinks its wrong to murder Terri.

I just can't believe how corrupt the system is in Florida. It is supposed to be that if you don't want to be kept alive you state it in a living will, yet the ghouls are trying to change it so that if you don't state it, you get death.

Look at the people on death row that don't get death for 20 years but by golly they are going to make sure that Terri dies ASAP!

Unbelievable.

Businessman Offers $1 Million to Keep Terri Schiavo Alive

To: National Desk

Contact: Gloria Allred, 323-653-6530

LOS ANGELES, March 10 /Christian Wire Service/ -- Statement from today's press conference with Robert Herring, Sr. and his attorney, Gloria Allred:

Statement from Gloria Allred, Attorney-at-Law, Representing Robert Herring, Sr.:

We are here today to announce that our client, Robert Herring, Sr., is making an offer to Terri Schiavo's husband, Michael Schiavo, which could save Terri's life.

Terri Schiavo is currently in a coma in Florida. Michael Schiavo has asked the court for permission to disconnect her feeding tube, which would result in her death. Terri's parents, Bob and Mary Schiavo, have opposed the request. After a long court battle the court has set March 18, 2005 for the removal of Terri's feeding tube.

It now appears that the court process is ending, and that the legislative process has failed to stop the removal of the feeding tube.

This situation has deeply moved and distressed our client Mr. Herring who has been observing the case in the media, as millions of others have for about a year.

Mr. Herring is a successful, socially responsible entrepreneur who spent more than 30 years in the electronics industry as the founder and owner of HERCO Technology. In 2000, Mr. Herring sold HERCO Technology to a New York Stock Exchange listed firm.

In 2003, Mr. Herring founded WEALTHTV, a lifestyle and entertainment television channel. He is a supporter of and a believer in stem cell research and the medical breakthrough that are occurring in this area. He is married with 5 children and 19 grandchildren and lives in the San Diego area.

He recognizes that unless something is done immediately, Terri Schiavo is not likely to survive very long after March 18th. Knowing that time is of the essence and realizing that he is fortunate enough to be able to help, he has decided to take action.

He contacted me and retained my law firm to convey the following offer to Terri's husband. If Mike Schiavo agrees to transfer the legal right to decide all of Terri's current and future medical desicions to Terri's parents, then Mr. Herring will pay Mr. Schiavo the amount of 1 million dollars (subject to court approval of Terri's parents as her conservators or guardians).

The million dollars was deposited into my law firm's client trust account yesterday and this morning we communicated this million dollar offer in writing to Mr. Schiavo's attorney.

This offer will remain open until Monday, March 14, 2005 at 5:00 p.m.

Mr. Herring thinks there might be hope for Terri Schiavo and wonders why there is a rush to death, especially in view of the advances being made in medical research. He feels that he couldn't live with himself if he didn't make this offer and he sincerely hopes that it will be accepted.

We commend Mr. Herring on his creative and decisive attempt to peacefully resolve this legal dispute over Terri.

We look forward to Mr. Schiavo's response.

Click here to see the letter of confirmation of the $1M deposit from the National Bank of California

Statement from Robert Herring, Sr.:

I became interested in the Terri Schiavo story some two years ago, and have followed the ups and downs in this tragic situation closely. After viewing video of Terri on television, I came to the belief that there was hope for her. As events have proceeded in the legal battle, it became clear to me that if something was not done for Terri, that all hope for her would be lost.

It was at this point that I decided to take action to try and bring a positive resolution to a very distressing situation. I therefore have made an offer to Terri's husband in the amount of $1,000,000 to relinquish his custodial rights to Terri's parents in an effort to keep the hope for Terri alive.

I believe very strongly that there are medical advances happening around the globe that very shortly could have a positive impact on Terri's condition. I have seen miraculous recoveries occur through the use of stem cells in patients suffering a variety of conditions.

I decided to contact Gloria Allred to assist me in keeping this hope for Terri alive due to her long history of protecting and being an advocate for those in need of help. I believe that by making this public offer it will encourage people around Mr. Michael Schiavo to help him with a decision that will be most beneficial to Terri. This is a decision that must be made immediately to keep Terri alive.

I have had no contact or association with either Mr. Michael Schiavo or Terri's parents or family. I am a neutral party as it relates to any dispute between them. I am not a medical expert, and do not have opinions on her specific condition. I am however aware that her condition, and potential for recovery is in dispute amongst learned medical professionals.

I am not affiliated or associated with any cause or organization. I am a private individual who is looking to bring hope to Terri's family.

It appears that the court battles may be coming to an end. With a date of March 18th quickly approaching, and no other viable hope for Terri to be able to keep her feeding tube, I felt compelled to act.

Robert Herring sounds like a great guy. But while it might annoy MS to have to turn down 1 m illion dollars, he most likely would look at his turning down of the money as "proof" he's only trying to fulfill his wife's wishes to any who doubt this. And he probably figures he'll get much more than 1 million for the rights to his "inspiring true story" if and when he succeeds in bringing about terri's death. In that respect, I can see this backfiring : "He turned down 1 million ! What more proof do you need that he's just trying to see his wife's wishes are carried out? obviously he's not motivated by greed."

Want to bet Michael Schiavo refuses? I think Felos did his homework on Michael Schiavo, probably got all kinds of incriminating videotape of Michael visiting his wife in the hospice that once had Felos on its board. I think Felos carefully took notes and selected Michael Schiavo for his watershed moment in legal history. Schiavo won't slip his leash that easily.

Schiavo will never agree. This has become personal between him and the Shindlers, it has nothing to do with Terri. He wants her dead, he wants the Schindlers crushed and no amount of money is gonna change that.

All this hopeless gesture does is win him fans for refusing the money.

If nothing else its going to gnaw at Michael to have to turn down that money.

He's way past the point of no return. He has invested his whole being into killing Terri. Terri is being discussed on KRLA (Hugh Herwitt) right nopw and all the pro-kill-Terri callers are on parade. It amazes me how passionate people are about killing this woman when they have little knowledge of the case (most say she's comatose, being artificially being kept alive, she wants to die, etc)

Also amazing is how many people think a ventilator/heart defibrilator/etc and a feeding tube are the same thing.

Though my tinfoil hat is just around the corner, your assessment may not be far from the truth. This is THE most insidious trio ever -- Schiavo, Felos and Greer .. they are truly sociopathic in their aversion to giving Terri any chance at life. It's almost demonic. Felos is playing this part for all he's worth .. he's on a mission to be the leading judicial authority on the "right to die," and of course publish his book, maybe be the focus of a movie, and fill his pockets with the residue of shattered lives. Wonder what will be on his tombstone.

I'm sure the Schindlers would be more than willing to sign a unconditional release of any potential claims to sue him in exchange for him releasing guardianship and divorcing/annulling his marriage to Terri. I just don't believe he has any good will left in him to allow him to do the right thing.

I have to agree that Schiavo is probably too far gone, and there is more than his greed fueling these engines.

Still, we can all be thankful that someone who can, has stepped forward and made the offer we would all like to make on Terri's behalf.

Well this seems like a good time to serve up the Starfish story...

Once upon a time there was a wise man
who used to go to the ocean
to do his writing.
He had a habit of walking
on the beach
before he began his work.

One day he was walking along
the shore.
As he looked down the beach,
he saw a human
figure moving like a dancer.

He smiled to himself to think
of someone who would
dance to the day.
So he began to walk faster
to catch up.

As he got closer, he saw
that it was a young man
and the young man wasn't dancing,
but instead he was reaching
down to the shore,
picking up something
and very gently throwing it
into the ocean.

As he got closer he called out,
"Good morning! What are you doing?"

The young man paused,
looked up and replied,
"Throwing starfish in the ocean."

"I guess I should have asked,
why are you throwing starfish
in the ocean?"

"The sun is up and the tide is going out.
And if I don't throw them in they'll die."

"But, young man, don't you realize that
there are miles and miles of beach
and starfish all along it.
You can't possibly make a difference!"

The young man listened politely.
Then bent down, picked up another starfish
and threw it into the sea,
past the breaking waves and said-
"It made a difference for that one."
