Fulton Co. Judge shot and killed in courthouse shooting (BREAKING Fri 9A)
WAGA-TV/WSB-TV Atlanta | 3.11.05

Posted on 03/11/2005 6:39:06 AM PST by mhking

This is a breaking news situation.

A man entered a courtroom in the Fulton County Courthouse this morning and shot a Fulton County Sheriff's deputy, a clerk and a judge; there are reports from both WSB and WAGA, the judge is deceased.

The perp has carjacked multiple vehicles -- now on his third -- and is still at large.

I've just come from downtown Atlanta, and the city is a madhouse.

Arrest site:

Bridgewater Apts. Duluth, GA
I can't get the map to post

oooops......sorry for the hiccup

Hiccups and spelling are forgiven on fast moving breaking news threads. It's in the fine print at the bottom of the rules....

Looks like CNN broke the case - they were the ones that examined the parking deck and discovered that the green honda was still there. (This according to local news)

I'm a big murder mystery/thriller reader and it doesn't get any better than this.

An amazing story!

I can't believe that the police didn't check that whole garage. Nichols could actually be that smart but maybe the car had very little gas.

Ten years from now the liberals will demand he be let off death row.

The far lefties will demand that he be set free.

He is likely to have converted to Islam in the interim OR taken up a 'career' as a "journalist' or author'.

Per http://11alive.com/video/default_live.aspx?storyid=60153

Don't know if anyone else has mentioned this: the murdered agent was David Wilhelm.

A plea bargain has to be accepted by the DA and the Judge. You think that's very likely in this case, remembering that the DA and possibly the Judge (varies by state) have to stand for reelection (or the case of the Judge, perhaps for continuance)?

That's an interesting point. Given the volatile nature of this case, perhaps his attorney will ask for a change of venue to have him tried. (?)

Maybe not, especially if it's a public defender. We'll have to see what happens now that he's been caught.

Shows that this guy is pretty clever and our local cops aren't.

Since he only made it to North Atlanta when he had free sailing (thanks to the cops) to just about anywhere in the country, I am rescinding any credit to him of being 'clever'. :)

I am still amazed he managed to overpower a deputy sheriff, shoot and kill a judge and a court reporter, and not only make it out of the courthouse alive, but shoot and kill another deputy sheriff once he exited the building, and evade capture for 24 hours.

I am not surprised he went back to his old neighborhood, and was caught there. If he had any sense to go with his gall, he would be in Canada by now.

Typical.

A couple reporters took the published account of the confession of one Manson Family members, followed the directions, and found the pile of evidence exactly where she said it would be.

It simply never occurred to the LAPD to go look...

I'm reading a Yahoo! AP story that calls her a hostage while Fox TV in the background reports Nichols told her to get out of the apartment upon his arrival.

Any idea how the customs agent got involved? Any chance the customs agent actually recognized and tried to apprehend the suspect, or was the agent just the random target chosen for a new vehicle?

You're confusing a lot of different issues here.

As I said, the judicial system isn't perfect, individual judges do let the system down.

But the ACLU and all those fools, the best way to deal with them is to support Bush's judicial nominations of strict constructionists and those who oppose the overreaching judicial legislation. That is a political, not a judicial, issue. And it comes from the federal side.

Judges in Georgia are ELECTED, not appointed. So if somebody is letting folks down, it's the Georgia voters who don't care enough to vote in judicial elections or familiarize themselves with the candidates.

If you don't see the danger of murdering a man in the position of the representative of justice, then you are not thinking about the consequences of this attack on the system (not on the individual man, who is no more important than you or I).

This is not fuzzy thinking. It is vital to the preservation of the Republic.
