Why would anyone want to run Windows 98?Works fine by me. It actually has some good security tweaks you can do to it. and...I did not have to update hundreds of dollars of Win98 only compatible software.
Why did I need XP again?

So you can call Microsoft to "re-activate" your OS whenever you make a change to your systems' hardware.

Why did I need XP again? I only run XP on machines that have it preinstalled. Windows 2000 is my preferred operating system due to its stability and better speed than XP. It is better than NT4, because it has plug and play and automatic updates. Windows 98 is still just suped up DOS shell that is prone to seriously trashing its configuration.

My main machine is also W98SE. Can't remember the last time it blue screened. Doesn't, never has run slow. Changed a mother board a year ago when the old one smoked itself. But kept 98SE. It is so compatible with everything why not.
Oh, I have 4 other machines. Two XP Pros and two XP Homes. I can't stand the XP Home system It is nightmare city in a network. The 98 machine and XP Pros all talk to each other including full access to every file 'without any usercodes or passwords'. But I cannot get the XP Home machine to do the same. @!#$%^@#$%^#$%&^#%^&%^

I'm with you. I love my Windows 98.
I'm keeping it until my computer burns up.

I still use 98 myself. It does fine by me - as long as you get all of those patches downloaded it is quite stable.
