Egypt Found to Have Developed Chemical Weapons For Iraq

As Israel considers allowing Egypt to control the critical Philadelphi corridor along Israel’s border, startling revelations about Egyptian chemical weapons proliferation are coming to light.

Egypt secretly helped former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein in his chemical weapons program, according to a CIA report.

The report, authored by the CIA’s Iraq Survey Group, says that Egypt sent specialists to Iraq in the 1980s to help him manufacture poison gas. Iraq later used the gas against Iranian citizens as well as Iraqi Kurds.

The report says that the Iraqi government paid Egypt $12 million, "in return for assistance with production and storage of chemical weapons agents."

The Iraq Survey Group, led by CIA special adviser Charles A. Duelfer, discovered extensive information on Iraq’s chemical weapons programs. "During the early years, Egyptian scientists provided consultation, technology and oversight, allowing rapid advances and technological leaps in weaponization," the report says.

Despite Egyptian denials following the report, UN arms inspectors confirmed the assertions to the Associated Press.

"We were aware from back in 1991 that there was a link between Iraq and Egypt on chemical weapons," former senior U.N. adviser on chemical weapons Ron G. Manley of Britain told the AP.

Iraqis used mustard gas, sarin and other chemical agents against the Iranians during the lengthy Iran-Iraq war. In 1988, Iraqi aircraft dropped sarin and mustard gas on Iranian-held villages in Iraqi Kurdistan, killing up to 5,000 Iraqi Kurdish civilians.

Egyptian Embassy spokesman Hisham Elnakib insists that, "Egypt had no relation whatsoever with Iraq in the field of chemical weapons."

The UN inspectors say their findings were confirmed over and over again by hard evidence and “frank and honest Egyptian scientists.” They say they never announced the Egyptian connection in order to maintain Egyptian cooperation in future investigation.

Some Israeli officials have long warned against Israeli indifference to Egypt's stockpiling of dangerous weapons. MK Yuval Shteinitz, for instance, who is Chairman of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, said last year that the Egyptians continue to allow arms-smuggling to Gaza because they are interested in the continuation of the Israeli -Palestinian conflict. “Egypt's policy is just like Syria's arming of Hizbullah,” Shteinitz said, “except that the Egyptians do it more quietly.”

The estimated amounts of arms and explosives smuggled in to Gaza in the past four years are: 2,000 kilograms of explosives, 6,700 Kalachnikov rifles (including 5,000 since 2003), 750 anti-tank shell launchers, 33 mortars, 18 submachine guns, 5 anti-aircraft missiles, 580,000 bullets, and dozens of rocket propelled grenades(RPGs).

The subject of Egypt arming terrorists with chemical weapons has not been discussed publicly in Israel.

How do the sayings go, "you reap what you sow," and "what goes around, comes around"? Sheez, as time goes on, all, ALL the snakes will come out from under the rocks, and hopefully have their heads removed in turn. Mubarak is not the first, either, lots more to come. Disgusting, but remember, it IS a muslim area, and muslims take care of muslims, first.

Aware since 1991. And this is the first the U.N. said anything publicly about it.

Just about every day there is a new reason why we should get rid of the U.N.

Saddam and his sons were up for killing anyone by any means at their disposal. No wonder the Sunnis loved them----all that firepower was directed everywhere but at themselves.

Doesn't matter. MSM won't pursue it. Few will read about it.

Egypt receives more foreign aid from the United States than any other country, except for Israel. I know, that's the main reason why Egypt has kept the 1979 Camp David accords, but I still feel we get a raw deal in return. The Egyptian media routinely publishes anti-Semitism, anti-Americanism, and wild conspiracy theories; since Mubarak ultimately controls the press over there, you know he doesn't disapprove of it. If we ever needed a good reason to cut off that aid, we have it now.

The UN says they didn't reveal this tidbit of news to keep info from certain Egyptian scientists flowing. My guess is the UN found a way to take a cut of the money.

Was EgyptAir flight 990 filled with Egyptian soldiers who had been training with Americans? It seems to me that I recall such a detail. That plane went down in Oct. 1999 with an Al Quaida terrorist at the controls in retaliation for Mubarak's broken promise that the two defendants turned over for trial for the Pan Am airliner crash over Lockerbie when the indictment handed down that week left open the possiblity that "others" may yet be accused. That was a violation of the deal.

Now wait a minute. Everyone knows that a Moslem does not commit suicide. [ducks, runs] Okay, what I meant to say was, everyone knows that, when 990 was flown into the ocean by the "sleeper cell" terrorist copilot, various Moslem denials centered around the ridiculous claim that a Moslem would not commit suicide. I think the Mossad and the CIA were blamed, along with the airliner manufacturer, and the men's room attendant at Grand Central Station.

"Pharaoh pinion "

cute!

I actually think that considering the amazing technology the Ancient Egyptians had, the people living there now are not living up to their heritage, they seem to prefer being "downtrodden"Arabs, instead of advanced people.
