Lautenberg Introduces Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act

Measure Tougher and More Comprehensive than 1994 Federal Ban on Assault Weapons that President Bush and Republicans Allowed to Expire Last Year

WASHINGTON, DC --Acting forcefully to protect citizens and law enforcers, United States Senator Frank R. Lautenberg introduced today a bill which would restore the federal ban on dangerous assault weapons.

"Keeping assault weapons off our streets is common sense," said Senator Lautenberg. "Our first responsibility to the American people is to keep them safe."

The "Assault Weapons Ban and Law enforcement Protection Act" would permanently reinstate and significantly strengthen the federal ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazine that expired on September 2004. The Lautenberg bill would improve and simplify the definition of assault weapons; would expand the scope of the ban to include conversion parts kits that can be purchased through the mail and used to build an assault weapon; regulate the transfer of grandfathered assault weapons; clarify definitions of assault weapon characteristics; and enhance tracing of assault weapons.

"It is time to act in the interest of the American people, not the gun lobby," said Senator Lautenberg. "Innocent lives, including law enforcement officials, are at risk and we need to pass this legislation now. Gun laws should be there to protect the innocent; not help criminals and terrorists"

The Governmental Accountability Office (GAO) produced a detailed report at the request of Senator Lautenberg that found that at least 47 suspected and known terrorists who are listed on the nation's terror watch lists were allowed to legally purchase firearms. With the expiration of the Assault Weapons Ban, these people could now upgrade from a hand gun or rifle, to an AK-47.

"Our first responsibility to the American people is to keep them safe."

This turd is so transparent it is almost laughable, The only difference between the UN and NJ politicians is 60 miles (the distance between NJ and NY). Note to political types, you don't make people safe by disarming law abiding people. What you get is an unarmed victim, and a armed criminal

This isn't necessary. I'm sure a judge will find a law in Turkistan or Zimbabwe that says serfs don't need firearms.

Senator Lautenberg, Senator Dianne Feinstein, Senator Schumer and Senator Boxer have an unusual obsession with gun control.

Why ?

Penis envy?

Uh oh, lib-dem garbage on the march, again. My Class III AR-10s and AR-15s are all legal with Federal Tax Stamps, and plenty of BATF paperwork. And my 40-round and 100-round mags are safe from Senator Sh!t-for-brains & Co.

"Hey jackass, an AK-47 IS a rifle."

And in this country, a semiautomatic one. There are very few if any true AK-47s in civilian hands.

Stay tuned for the news outlets to show an Iraqi terrorist blasting away with a true AK-47 (machine gun) when they air this story. The idea is to blur the line between machine guns and what Lautenberg would ban with this bill.

In the US we have AK-47 STYLED rifles, NOT AK-47s, but your average soccer mom or MSM watcher would never know that. They think we have rifles on the streets identical to what they have in Iraq. Nope, one squeeze of the trigger, one shot fired. Just like countless hunting rifles in this country.

Is there a betting line on how fast GWB will sign this bill if it ever gets to his desk? I say about a day after he says he has no choice but to sign to protect "the people" (the elite).

Get bent. This bill is DOA in the House.

Bush hatred knows no bounds.

Got a cite on that? I've not heard or seen any problems with their product.

Here's an old FR thread with more info on SA INC, and other M1A manufacturers... Considering the purchase of an M1A

Um... I think you're smoking crack. They seem to make a fine product.

As for cast parts, you might want to ask Ruger about that, *since every metal pistol they make is cast!* I don't think anyone with a clue would accuse Ruger of making low quality unreliable pistols.

Oh, and Ruger supplies Springfield with frames. Surprise!

***but your average soccer mom or MSM watcher would never know that.**

Worse that that, there's a few Freepers who don't know what a 'real' assault rifle or apparently that the AK-47's here in the USA are not sub machine guns (TRUE assault rifles), but are in fact just a semi-auto rifle that fires a fairly small caliber (7.62x39mm) round.

A couple days ago there was thread on AK's and the 'need' for us to have an AK-47. It gets frustrating trying educate those brainwashed by the MSM, especially when the brainwashed are Freepers.

Mostly I see one or two anecdotal stories of "oopsies" that SA made but put right. They did have a bad supplier for the M1A parts for a couple years in there, but they changed it.

Your position is contrary to every review I have ever seen of SA's products, as well as my friends and my own experiences with their products.

All the firearms I currently own, semiauto, revolver, lever and pump, rifles, shotguns and handguns, high-capacity and single-shot, I will own forever. Never to be registered, never to be surrendered.

The socialists had better be careful what they wish for. If I am turned into a felon by the stroke of a pen, I will NOT go quietly...

And that was long before this ban expired.

Any bets as to whether they'll try to "correct" that little "problem?"

My tagline applies to liberals and democRats as well. Damn them all.

Thanks. I think this is the thread you are talking about:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1364212/posts?page=270#270

Yea, I chewed a little FReeper rear in that thread too. So far the brainwashed haven't shown up in this thread yet.

I can't believe how many gun owners (and FReepers) have bought into and use the MSM and antigun verbiage. I doubt any of us own a true AK-47, but we continue to call our rifles that. I also hate people using the term hi-caps when they are simply describing "full" or "standard" capacity magazines. The abortions manufactured during the AWB would be more aptly called "restricted" capacity magazines.

I'm afraid I'm fighting a losing battle, though.

Text of the Second Amendment
"A well regulated Militia
being necessary to the security of a free State,
the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed."

Anyone who actually reads AND understands the 2nd Amendment will see that there is no need or authority for any type of gun registration and there is no need for anyone to have to apply for a license to carry a gun.
Any political party, politician, judge (etc), organization or individual who trys to convince you that:
1) you must register a firearm
2) you must pass a background check
3) you must wait (x) amount of days before you can get your firearm
4) you need to have a license to carry a gun
is either uneducated about OUR rights as citizens
OR is actively working to undermine OUR country.

How Did the Founders Understand the Second Amendment?

CONGRESS in 1866, 1941 and 1986 REAFFIRMS THE SECOND AMENDMENT
The Bill of Rights, including the Second Amendment right to keep and bear firearms,
originated in the United States Congress in 1789 before being ratified by the States.
On three occasions since then--in 1866, 1941, and 1986--
Congress enacted statutes to reaffirm this guarantee of personal freedom
and to adopt specific safeguards to enforce it.

ON THE DAY BEFORE Thanksgiving 1993,
the 103d US Congress brought forth a constitutional turkey.
The 103d Congress decided that the Second Amendment did not mean what it said
("...shall not be infringed") and passed the Brady bill.

How the Brady Bill Passed (and subsequently - "Instant Check")
When the Brady Bill was passed into law on November 24, 1993,
the Senate voted on the Conference Report
and passed the Brady Bill by UNANIMOUS CONSENT.
