I hope the lack of "takers" just means they are thoughtfully writing out an explanation to this.

Then why do it?

I said they were all different circumstances.

And yes there are instances in which people have to make decisions which may or maybe not result in death.

Terri is not one of them. Let God's will be naturally done in his time.

How do we justify it?

Fair question. We are justified in taking lives in self-defense whether as a nation or as individuals.

Now what constitutes self-defense as a nation, I won't go there. It's too convoluted and this is about Terri. I'm not all one way or another. It has to be carefully thought out.

My main justification for war seldom comes up. If your brother humans are being slaughtered in another country by some kind of tyrant, my personal belief is that it is our moral duty to try to stop it if we won't commit national suicide in the process.

Some of the other justifications for war get too fuzzy to go into here, and I could probably make arguments for and against every war we have fought.

Please don't tell me that if somebody came into your home and tried to take your child or you, ripped your phone off the wall, hid your cell phone, and you have any kind of weapon to kill the perp and the chance to do it, you wouldn't.

My personal religious beliefs color my views, which doesn't make me right, but I don't have to lay down and die because somebody doesn't like my religion. I am only allowed to do that when there is no other way out. Then I should try to accept my fate with equanimity.

You may not share my religious beliefs, and that is your right and I should still try to treat yours with respect even if you poke and prod, but I was thinking this morning that Terri happens to be a Christian (some would argue that point). Her high priest said "Whatsoever you do to the least of My people, that you do unto me." "I was hungry and you would not feed me."

My very humble opinion is that Terri is one of the least of those people and they are starving Jesus at this moment during Lent. It is Lent for both east and west now. For awhile it was only Lent for the west. The same principle would apply any day of the day of the year.

So my little thou shalt not kill last night later developed some exceptions, whether for good or for ill. There wasn't room left on the stone to carve in all the exceptions which did later materialize, I guess.

None of the above means I am right. Nor does anything you say mean you are right.

>"You have not understood a word that I've said."<

-I don't think so...I believe I understand your position, and what you have been trying to convey. But we have entirely different concerns.

Correct me if I'm wrong:

You are concerned with this case setting precedence, for the State (Congress) to deprive the wishes of an adulterous husband who wants to end the life of his mentally incapacitated wife. You believe that is an invasion of his spousal rights, and also his wife's wishes.
You are concerned this may deny future spousal rights, their invalid spouses *right* to die, if all there is to attest to their wishes is the spouses word. In short, you are concerned about their *right to death*.
Am I correct?

- I am:
#1. Concerned with the gradual public acceptance of active euthanasia without the consent of the infirm. It is even becoming hospital policy in some countries. IE; 'The Groningen Protocol'.
#2. Concerned with future precedence of the State (the courts) to actively order euthanizing of the infirm, who are incapable of defending themselves.
In short, I am concerned about their *right to life*.

>"If all you do is emote, you're just a liberal."<

I see.
- "All I'm doing is "emoting," therefore, I'm "just a liberal"
-I try not to pigeon hole people I disagree with into a category, in an attempt to diminish their point of view. I think it's intellectually lazy.

regards

I find the scientology connections to this case chilling indeed. This is hatred for disabled people, pure and simple

Another plastic monkey to slap around......

Chilling indeed!

Like a garbage manufacturing operation. They manufacture dead horses.

Dead horses to fuel public outrage.

As if perjury was not enough.

Well, this public guy got outraged alright, but not in the direction they anticipated.

I believe it was a scrivener's error.

Is this the only evidence of an MRI, this remark?

There are voluminous records of every other test that was done, multiple entries on the CT scans and exams and so forth. But this clause in one affidavit is the only evidence of an MRI?

Wait a second...why is Terri special? Everday Dr.'s and administrators decide who lives and dies. When someone needs an organ transplant, who do you think decides who gets that organ? Dr.'s and administrors. There was an article the other day that it is not unual for hospitals to turn off life support when a patient is terminal or in a PVS and they can no longer pay. I'm directing these comments to those who say no human being has a right to decide who lives and dies. The law in Florida actually gives Judge Greer that right. You might not like his decision, but that doesn't make him the devil. He's following the rule of law, something you guys are always touting as something we must do. I don't get it.

So you would subject Terri to an operation on her brain so she can have a procedure to check her brain. Interesting. Now, I've been eagerly awaiting your response to the question I put to the forum earlier. I especially want to hear what you have to say about it.

So, would you be a concientious objector if drafted or are you against the military because it is forced to make these kinds of choices?

I'm not all one way or the other. It depends on the specific circumstances. I have been a part of the military establishment for much of my life peripherally, and have seen both the good and dark side of it.

I did not try to persuade my ex-husband to avoid the draft by fleeing to Canada when he was called, and we were not of a religion which qualified for conscientious objection. He served our country. I have no love left for him now, but I call a spade a spade. He served our country the best he knew and with honor as he did a couple other things in his life.

In retrospect, I would probably wouldn't change anything except not marry him in the first place. He did not shirk his duty or even consider it when called upon to serve his country and had no idea where that would lead him.

Yes they can. But every single other test she's had, bar none, has shown that she's PVS.

She's been asked to give a clue with her eyes. It's a time honored, classic test. She can't pass it.

You've been insisting she's brain dead and you want her killed. Why would you possibly care?

She's a woman, not a vegetable

But not to fret. Looks like another delay by the Dems, so she'll probably be well on her way to dehydration before anything is done.

But she hasn't had all the more valuable tests to make that determination.
