'PLAYGIRL' EDITOR FIRED AFTER OUTING SELF AS REPUBLICAN
Drudge Report

Posted on 03/21/2005 7:17:59 AM PST by Babu

PLAYGIRL editor-in-chief Michele Zipp has been stripped of her duties after she revealed how she voted Republican in the 2004 election.

Zipp, in an e-mail, claims she was fired after an onslaught of liberal backlash.

"Hello Drudge,

"After your coverage of my article about coming out and voting Republican, I did receive many letters of support from fellow Republican voters, but it was not without repercussions. Criticism from the liberal left ensued. A few days after the onslaught of liberal backlash, I was released from my duties at Playgirl magazine.

"After underlings expressed their disinterest of working for an outed Republican editor, I have a strong suspicion that my position was no longer valued by Playgirl executives. I also received a phone call from a leading official from Playgirl magazine, in which he stated with a laugh, "I wouldn't have hired you if I knew you were a Republican.

"I just wanted to let you know of the fear the liberal left has about a woman with power possessing Republican views."

So, you have a subscription?

Nope. (Guess you'll have to find someone else to discuss this month's pictorials with.)

****The have every right to fire her because they don't like her shoes, her employment is entirely at their will, as it should be.****

I don't think that's correct. Not these days anyway. Once one is hired its pretty tough to 'legally' fire someone. And I'm fairly sure you have to show cause for dismissal like; theft, incompetence, financial downsizing, etc. But voting isn't one of them. The EEOC kind of frowns on that sort of stuff. And if you'll recall the EEOC even made Hooters hire men waiters. If the EEOC can do that they can do almost anything regarding 'employees rights'.

Bottom line is that 'your business' isn't any longer yours.

PING to the REPUBLICAN PARTY REPTILE ping list! What is the Republican Party Reptile? It is a creature of the eighties. It's neoconservatism with its pants down around its ankles, the Rehnquist Supreme Court on drugs, a disco Hobbes living without shame or federally mandated safety regulations. The Republican Party Reptile supports a strong defense policy, but sees no reason to conduct it while sober. The RPR believes in minimum government interference in private affairs; unless the government brings over extra girls and some ice. In short, the RPR is the new label that our political spectrum has been crying out for; the conservative with a sense of humor and a healthy dose of depravity.

Where was the RPR list when I was a party animal? Now that I have no more use for such things, you must cease and desist! If I can't have fun, you can't either!

Too funny.

"Women don't look at porn - or do they?"

I bought one in college. My roommate and I decorated our dormroom with pics from it (censored 'cept for one nice bottom on the back of the door).

That was the extent of my porn buying. I do blush each time I see Jim Brown, the ex football player...he was featured in the one I bought.

Not quite. HOOTERS settled the lawsuit brought against them for a relatively small amount, and settled with the EEOC. They are still allowed to hire females only as waitresses, but also fill a few alternative jobs like bartender or host witout regard to gender. See here:

Nah, Voteamerica is correct. They have every right to fire her for her public statements. What will be interesting is to watch the publicity. Either way, I think Playgirl wins by being in the public eye. They may be correct if their assessment is a significant number of readers were going to abandon them. But I think now there will be much sympathy for Zipp.

Look what happened at Rolling Stone: the ad for Christian books they were going to deep-six. I believe their readers weren't going to like the ad, many vehemently. But they reinstated the ad because (I think) it was impossible to express a logical consistent policy that would allow them to selectively reject that ad.

What I don't understand is if she really is a Republican why was she selling pornography? She is either a hypocrite or not a Republican.

Come on, think about it.

Being republican is a political, mot moral or religious position.

Granted, many (not all) repubbies do carry moral and ethical/religious positions with them (and they SHOULD do so all the time since actions speak louder than words!), but a moral decision or religious (faith-based) position does not make a political party.

And a political party should not use a religious position as a requirement for entry.

Unless you're democrat - Then you must bow down to international socialism, one-party (theirs!) rule, abortion, and homosexuality. And to the DOW-Jones, as long as Clinton is in power.

Shh. Don't you know that unless you have the "real religion" as a Republican you don't count. Some believe that lockstep is the only way to walk like a Republican.

The Hooter’s example was discrimination against someone because of their gender, making the issue one of a protected class. Religion, age and ethnic origin place one in a protected class, which only means that they can’t be fired for those reasons (this is where it really is hard to fire someone even with cause). Unions also make it almost impossible to fire someone with or without cause.

However, political affiliation does not place one in a protected class, making their employment at will. You can chose to believe that unless you are in a protected class you can successfully sue your employer for firing you, and good luck. In the real world employers are allowed to fire people just because they don’t like them. Those people may sue, but they lose.
