My PPK/S is my least favorite gun. Bites, shoots left (nothing my 'smith can do about it), stiff. About as bad as a "good" gun can get.

People have to be ready to shoot high power loads....I have had all my 3 boys from about age 7 shoot full house .44 mag...and .45 colt loaded to Magnum velocities in my stout rugers and as long as you know you have to HOLD ON....its not that bad...the surprise part is what can hurt you.

Possibly, the most accurate gun I have ever owned was a Russian Makarov. I don't mean most accurate pocket gun or combat gun, but most accurate handgun period.

This particular gun, I got in one of my few good trades. I traded an old geezer a Pentax Spotmatic for one. It had adjustable sights and a pretty good single action trigger. Double action wasn't as good but was still OK.

The first time I tried it, I was shooting at the end of an old oil can. It kept putting all the bullets into one, not very large hole from maybe 10 yards. Impressed, I later tried it on paper and it was consistently putting them all into one larger hole at 25 yards. Probably would beat my High Standard Victor or Supermatic Citation.

Also functioned perfectly. Someone should examine those guns to see just how they do it.

Hey, I only weigh 150 pounds. I'd have to put a short stock with three inches of foam recoil pad on that puppy!

Now, to be series, isn't that a high speed output assault weapon capable of taking out an entire SWAT team and the LAPD in under 12 seconds? And the shell casings ejecting at 6,000 rounds per minute will kill old ladies and cause the Earth to stop spinning on it axis??? LOL

Also functioned perfectly. Someone should examine those guns to see just how they do it. Makarov barrels are particularly well-made, with the barrels a press fit into the receiver, and the things have a reasonably well-designed grip that's meant more for a secure grip than concealment. Add to that a cartridge that's not overly powerful but which sort of resembles a minuitirized .45 ACP, and shows more consistancy than the wide range of 9mm/.380/.38 special ammunition available, and you have a nice list of steps to get you in the desired direction.

Add in the liklihood that the light report and recoil of the PM is less likely to cause flinch problems with beginning shooters, and the little pistol is both light enough to permit all-day shooting without particular fatigue and, being steel framed, sturdy enough to easily handle serious practice. The resulting combination is hard to beat.

Nice and simple, reasonably accurate [or, sometimes, even better!] and very reliable. And there are even getting to be some nice holsters available for the things.

I read about this some time ago, apparently they are tackling the issue of the slide biting back, if you've ever fired one (PPK) before sometimes the slide will give you a little "love bite"...

Yes. I have an older imported PPK and a new S&W PPK. The grip tang on the S&W model is much larger than on the Walther.

Not on the new one! That tang nicely keeps my pudgy hand out of the slide's way. The older PPK always sliced me up after a box or three of shooting...

Same here. After some experiences with a buddy's, I went for a Bersa Thunder .380. Practically a clone of the PPK/s, but with a better tang, a better action (double AND single), and a couple of jams on the first box, but no other problems after another 1500 rounds. For a couple of hundred less, a better buy in my book.

Maybe Smith will improve the action and get the price down. Then I could go for one. Maybe.

Just needed a good workout to loosen things up, I shot a HP like that...came out of the oil paper, checked everything over and then fed 4, 13 rounders through it as fast as I could...on on mag #5 it hiccuped...Shoots pretty nice now..

A two year wait to get one and the price is more like double that, from what I’m told. I looked into buying one about 2 years ago. They’re handmade in a one man gunshop. That’s the story I get anyway.

Yes, they went up to $1200 or something, but for the last year or so, they have been available, and you should be able to find one now.

Also, it is a serious automated operation (with some skilled hand tuning), not a one man shop.
