Clinton sure didn't have any problem, getting the balls to grab poor Elian, and send him to Clinton's pals in Cuba.

What I'd do if I was powerful in the Republican party is bring this to a vote.. and any Republicans who voted against it, kick them out of the Republican party. So in the next cycle they would have to run as a Democrat or an Independent..

While hte organization and funding of the Republican party would be behind the new R candidate. I think if the threat of that was real, these RINO's would fall in line quickly.

We've got to get back to the old rules; they lead back to a republic.

Sue, short of physical combat, I'm not sure it can get any worse. What precisely are you babbling about?

"They are always a vote short and they always will be. How convenient."

I get the feeling we are being played often as well. The judges is the key test for me. If they can't get them in with a big majority in congress and the senate.. and the presidency.. AND the supreme court Republican..

Then I can only assume that they do not seriously want to put in constitutional judges, or pro-life judges. But are merely saying that in order to keep the masses pacified.

I agree with the sentiment expressed at redstate.org:

I agree unchecked democracy is a failed system. Look at how Europe and Latin America are doing.. all democracies.

Their economies are stagnant, and the number of children they produce is shrinking each year. In every democracy in the world, the government grows larger each year, and liberties get smaller..

Our own constitution never mentions the word democracy once.. and we swear allegiance to 'the republic'.

There are three who oppose it (the usual suspects) and three undecideds. I expect McCain to oppose it, but I can still see Hagel or Warner to come around.

Count me out, too. I've been very active for years, but will sit on my hands and watch these phonies get what they deserve.

You call it quitting. Some us call it taking a stand against those who promise us action, then back off and go the other way. Those kinds of behavior are an affront to all of us who voted for them. Are we supposed to continue to support this cowardice, and simply watch our country slip further into the clutches of the international left?

"Put up or shut up" time has passed, and they (Republicans) need to shut up. It is offensive to those of us who look for integrity and altruism in our leaders.
Enough of this pseudo-aristocratic posturing!!

I'm tired of hearing these "representatives" come on talk radio and others venues, and tell us how they are going to do this and do that, get our spirits up, and then back off, yet again. I have believed them too often, too long.

It's not a new concept, but I also like the idea of running conservative candidates against RHINOS in primaries and general elections, but in RHINO states only.

Why worry about whether Dems get in -in states like Maine, when the Repubs they have there are little different from the Dems? Sure, they vote with the Republicans on lots of minor issues, but note how they always abandon us on the most crucial ones.

Recent events have done more to define the Republican Party than ever before. It all boils down to the proverbial--"actions speak louder than words"!

They have failed us!

P.S. And I doubt very much that they have another substitute strategy other than the "nuclear option".

"....Sen. Susan Collins, a Maine Republican who said she remains undecided. "But I am also concerned that a rule change will further charge the partisan atmosphere to the point that we will not be able to conduct business......"

Excuse me, Senator Dufus, all that's needed to conduct Senate business is a Quorum or 51 Senators to show up.

McCain and Hagel are both considering running for President. They vote against this, and they're dead. I think we're still OK. After all the talk, if Frist doesn't use it, the GOP will get destroyed in 2006 as their base stays home.

Good points..Also Warner..I think this is possibly a diversion..give the Dems a chance to find a way to back down and save some face..No way Warner goes along ..

Thank you Mike. I am so glad I didn't post the original thoughts I had when I read your first response. You are a man after my own convictions. Apology accepted.

I, for many years, not only was registered Republican, but donated both money and time to the GOP. Come from a family of intense GOP activism. I started to become disillusioned with "the party" when the leadership decided they would not have a REAL Impeachment trial for Bill Xlinton and switched my voter registration to "non-affilated". I did continue to support with my vote and money certain GOP candidates however.

If our President and GOP leadership can't get these New England liberals in line on this grave Constitutional issue, however I really, in the calm of overnight reflection, can't see any use in participating in the process any longer.

Never in my wildest imaginations did I believe I could come to this conclusion.

Time will tell. There is still hope, but it is waining.

Again, thank you for stepping up to the plate with the apology. It is the mark of a man with integrity.

I agree up to a point, but there are limits. If the GOP started supporting abortion, would you still support it? Not saying that will happen, but if we abandon principle to "win" elections one to many times, it might.

Good point. And perhaps if conservative and libertarian minded folks quit being active at their local Republican Party committee meetings, it could happen.

Conservative opinions are ridiculed at local Democrat committee meetings with the democRats in power. When conservatives quit attending local Democrat committee meetings, what is the result? What used to be mainstream Marxism now passes for mainstream democRat ideology. Needless to say, the way the top democRat jokers behave in the National spotlight, is the way democRats behave locally.

In my Congressional District, democRats lobby for US Constitution prohibited "reparations for slavery" (fourteenth amendment), and these democRats consider UN control of our lives actually desirable. Homosexual agenda, abortion under any circumstance, anti-military, etc.; this about face in the Democrat party platform did not happen overnight, it took decades. The iNAZIs were in and will remain in this fight for the long run.

However, conservatives and libertarians must think long term, we have to resist the need for instant gratification. Through compromise, we have to win the hearts and minds of our vertebra challenged RINOs; so we might hold fast against the democRats.

Our Country would have never been a Federation, unless founders were willing to compromise on the repugnant issue of slavery. We face an equal challenge in our era, against those denying God's role as a pillar of Western culture.
