BUZZARD'S GIZZARD, WYOMING--The local chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union is in a quandary of--ahem--"monumental" proportions after the authorities of this hamlet unveiled, on public property, a carving of the Ten Commandments--on a giant penis.
"Here's the problem," the local ACLU chapter head, Seamus Von Blucher, said, "unless the monument comes down this instant, it will mean we are living in an unconstitutional Christian theocracy, just like we did prior to 1973. However, since the Commandments are inscribed on a giant penis we can't remove them without implying that we are living in an unconstitutional Christian theocracy, just like we did prior to 1973. Someone really did his--oops, I mean 'their'--homework on this one."
"It's amazing," Mayor Jedediah Bodine told this reporter, "we got this tip from this obscure FReeper telling us we could get away with it if we did it this way. Who'd a thunkit?"
Another local ACLU official, Ms. Colleen Tschernaskova, when asked if she would consider leaving things as they are, dismissed the idea immediately. "You don't understand," she said, "we believe the world is positively devoid of all meaning. Could you sit still through an injustice if you shared this sublime and exalted worldview? No, I'm afraid my conscience--which, mind you, consists only of biochemical reactions in my brain--simply will not allow me to rest until we have solved this problem in a way satisfactory to us and painful to our adversaries. After all, these simplistic idiots believe in 'good' and 'evil.' Have you ever heard of anything so barbaric?" At this point she was cut off by being forcibly removed from the hospital emergency room entrance she was blocking in order to protest all the injustice in the world.
It was announced that the ACLU was pulling all its finest legal minds from the Terri Schiavo case to solve this dilemma. Mr. Schiavo is protesting this decision.
What's the significance of 1973 in the guy's statement above. I was just a kid back then. Was there some legal victory the ACLU attained in that year? What changed our status from an unconstitutional Christian theocracy in '73?
GW
It's the year of Roe v. Wade which gave us abortion on demand. I'm sorry; I didn't realize the reference was that obscure.
Was it circumcised?
LOL!
Now that's got to have the ACLU in a fix. Something the despise carved onto something they are...Damn that's funny.
Thanks!
Um . . . ping?
Half of me thinks - "this is a descration of the Word of God."
The other half of me thinks - "imagine what an interesting bris this would make."
I conclude by thinking that the authorities of this Wyoming hamlet might have pulled something off that befuddles and confuses the anti-God ACLU. Anything that stymies the godless ACLU will at least get a favorable word from me. If the ACLU gets "the offending organ" removed would that imply that they favor censorship? If so, they'd be going against one of their principles (that anything except what is decent and godly must be permitted in the name of "freedom.").
Just substitute ACLU in place of Haman when reading Esther - rembering appropriate noise makers.
ACLU fubar!
Ah, you got me! In my state of waiting for my after lunch coffee (rocket fuel) to kick in, I didn't see "vanity" when I first looked. OK, early April fool (or Purim fool?) on me!
All I saw was "ACLU in a Quandry" and I went over to instinctive autopilot mode. Maybe put "Vanity" with the title itself so it shows up better next time. Dang, and I was all fired up with ACLU fubar and happy about it and everything!
In the real world, the ACLU would sue to remove the commandments but keep the penis.
All I saw was "ACLU in a Quandry" and I went over to instinctive autopilot mode. Maybe put "Vanity" with the title itself so it shows up better next time. Dang, and I was all fired up with ACLU fubar and happy about it and everything!
Hey, it was clearly labeled a "Purimschpiel." Plus, didn't you see the funny names I gave the characters?
Dude!
