(CNSNews.com) - President Bush's spokesman and Republican congressional leaders Tuesday expressed disappointment over a federal judge's rejection of an emergency request to reinsert Terri Schindler Schiavo's feeding tube.
Tuesday was the fourth straight day that the brain injured Florida woman has been without nutrition or hydration. Her husband, Michael Schiavo, last week won a legal battle to have the feeding tube removed and maintains that Terri would not have wanted to live in her present condition.
White House spokesman Scott McClellan, who was traveling with the president in Albuquerque, N.M., said Bush "would have preferred a different ruling" from U.S. District Court Judge James Whittemore, whose 13-page decision effectively dismissed the claims by Terri's parents, that their daughter's constitutional rights to due process and religious freedom had been denied by the State of Florida.
"We continue to stand on the side of defending life," McClellan said. "This ruling was one step in the process and we will see what comes of future proceedings."
Terri's parents immediately appealed Whittemore's ruling to the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, but the controversy over whether Terri's feeding tube is reinserted may ultimately rest with the U.S. Supreme Court.

Ours is a nation where a judge may not sentence Beltway sniper Lee Malvo to death, because he is too young to die, but can sentence Terri Schiavo to death, because she is too severely handicapped to live.
Being only deeply saddened does not cut it!
Uh-OH. The GOP is not allowed to react...they will be skewered for this. The silent 'leadership' rats such as Pelosi and Clinton and Kennedy are lurking in the shadows to pounce on any GOP opinion in this case. How long will it be before the 'disappointment' of the GOP is twisted into the 'GOP shoves agenda down the throats of Americans'. We will probably hear something like that from Reid or Pelosi on this evening's news...
I hope her husband at least offers Terri a sponge soaked in wine and bile.
I am physically ill about this whole thing.
I have to stop following this news.
Could we have that changed to read "Members of the GOP React to Judge's Ruling Against Terri's Parents"?
I read through the article and didn't see where Ken Mehlman or anyone at the RNC made a statement. I'm a strong supporter of President Bush and the Republican Congressional leaders, but they do not speak for the Party as whole.
Me thinks the WH has a trick or two up there sleeves yet.
Keep praying.
My comment on another thread:
If this hateful crime, commited with the government stamp of approval, does not become a turning point in our country, I shudder to think of what is to come.
Those of us who understand the reality of and dire need for upholding the moral absolutes which are the foundation of human life, must become dedicated to their protection and revival. If we don't, if we sit on the sidelines trying to comfortably enjoy our remaining years while everything is going down in flames around us, we have joined the enemy.
Now that the worshippable courts and government agencies are apparently castrated eunuchs and unable to stop a hateful murder by starvation, the government has abdicated its right to govern. Those of us on the side of the eternal truths of simple morality and proctection of life had better get our acts together soon.
Good point. You're probably right.
I believe Michael Schiavo should get exactly what he sowed.
¿que?
My understanding is that dozens of Democrats voted along with the Republicans, and that more members of the Congressional Black Caucus (all of whom are Democrats) voted along with the Republicans than against them.
I guess some of the liberals are going to have to dust off the racial insults used on Condi Rice once again . . .
Let the Democrats spew. The whole story WILL come out, and they will have stepped in it again.
I know what you mean.
I couldn't sleep after hearing the appellate news last night.
Probably true. Thanks for that!
"I hope her husband at least offers Terri a sponge soaked in wine and bile.
¿que?"
Christ was offered a sponge soaked in wine and bile to ease his pain while on the cross. He declined, I believe.
I'll 'Kopechne' anyone you want. Call me at MurderbyGreer@aol.com.
Dont be stupid. Just pay me and my attorneys enough and I'll kill them slow.
Pay enough and I'll starve them to death. Trust me. There will be no CSI here.
I'll deny their parents giving them a drop of water.
Yup. Any of us will do FOR YOU what I did to that man's inconvenient 'bitch'.
Want to move on. It just takes a stroke of my pen with me in my slick black robe."
