Since when can any child undergo any surgical procedure without a parent's notification? You can't even get your ears pierced under the age of 18!

Hey, ear piercing could conceivably harm the child, whereas abortion is a perfectly safe medical procedure that merely removes an "unviable tissue mass."

This, to me, is inconceivable. Like you say about piercing, when I took my daughter to have her naval pierced we had to show proof (of ownership shall you say)in the form of a BC, her picture ID and my picture ID, all due to the fact that she was under 18. There is something dreadfully wrong with this picture!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since when can any child undergo any surgical procedure without a parent's notification? Abortion is the exception in many cases. Really. Here in Massachusetts, children need parental permission for ear piercings, but not abortions.

Only if it is an abortion. It is legal.

many states have laws that allow minors access to medical care when it involves STD's Pregnancy or contraception. As an MD I was almost assaulted by a dad when I COULD NOT tell him the reason his 16 yo daughter had abdominal pain was her ECTOPIC PREGNANCY. I had asked her if I could tell her parents and she told me NO WAY. I got around it by saying the " the state says minors have a right to confidentiality in certain cases, like for example an STD, or pregnancy". The light went on in dads eyes and he went in the room and got the story from the girl.
By the way YOU as a parent are responsible for any costs or problems caused by the treatment or procedure.
But I can't give a kid an aspirin without parental consent.
