KYW:

The antiviolence group "Mothers In Charge" was being honored Wednesday night during the 76ers-Detroit game, for their work in fighting violence in Philadelphia.

Founder and executive director Dorothy Johnson-Speight says "Mothers In Charge" is asking all Philadelphians to stand up for peace at Wednesday night's 76ers' game at the Wachovia Center, as her group is honored at a first-quarter courtside ceremony for its work fighting violence in Philadelphia. Johnson-Speight says, there must be access-curtailing legislation if violence is really going to stop:

"Pennsylvania is the only state in this area without law or permits. You don't need a permit to get a gun. To carry a gun, yes, but you don't even need a permit to buy a gun. Anyone can walk in a store and buy a gun."

Drug Prevention Network Of America: Mothers in Charge, one of the Pa. parent groups we are in contact with are going to DC on Mothers Day May 9, would any of your groups be interested in supporting this effort for gun legislation sponored by the Million Mom March. For more information please go to their site at , www.pammm.org.

Philly Daily News: "We're united through tragedy," Johnson-Speight told me yesterday. "We provide grief support. Most of us have lost a loved one within the last five years.

"But we are mainly interested in ways that we can stop the violence. We were in City Council last week providing emotional testimony for Donna Reed Miller and Darryl Clarke's anti-gun bills. We support [state Rep.] Michael Horsey's crime bill."

Main Line Times:Police, legislators, seek new assault weapons ban in U.S The Pennsylvania Million Mom March, CeaseFire PA, Physicians for Social Responsibility and Mothers in Charge join them in supporting a ban. Those organizations attended a rally with Montgomery County law enforcement officials Monday.

Too bad Washington changed their name. How ironic it would be if they were playing the Bullets.

Typical socialist response to the inner-city carnage around here this past week. Most of the fans at the game tonight will be suburbanites anyway, I'm curious to see how they respond.

Well, I hope our good neighbors in Pennsylvania will not listen to "emotional testimony." If a group admits that their testimony is emotional, rather than reasoned, why would anyone listen? Do we curb basic rights because someone is emotional?

Reminds me of a funny joke that was floating around before that name change:

"Because it is so associated with gang violence and murder, the Washington Bullets have decided to drop the word Washington from its name."

"Yo, nobody gonna tell AI that he can't carry his niner. ....just like nobody gonna tell hisself that he has to show up for practice." - AI

“Practice!?!?! Practice! Man, we’re talking about practice! If I can’t practice...I can’t practice, it’s as simple as that. Listen, practice is just that...it’s practice. I am leading the NBA in scoring and we’re talking about Practice! Practice? We’re going to sit here and discuss practice man...Practice...?”

Check these player's lockers. I'd bet at least a few own their own weapons and carry them for protection. Wasn't Scotty Pippen caught with a weapon in his car, back when he was playing for Chicago?

ROFL. The irony only gets deeper when the 76ers represent the founders of our independance through the use of firearms against the British. A Sixers-Bullets matchup on Gun-Grabber Night would blow out the Unintentional Comedy Scale.

hehe.. it's ironic that Allen Iverson a few years ago was kickin in doors with his uncle and pistol whipping people looking for his old lady.

Gee, and I thought the only reason I hated the 76ers was because of the gangster rapper guard that plays for them. Now I have another reason to dislike them.

I'm shocked that you don't even need a permit to spew socialist garbage in the daily newspapers. You know, the First Amendment protects a weighty right, but with rights come responsibilities.

As long as it doesn't stop 'the answer' from shooting, no problem.

I would be PISSED if I had paid good money for this game and had to endure these @$$holes giving these Commie gun-grabbing fools a forum. I would boo like a madman if I were there. Fortunately for me (and for them), the NBA sucks so bad that I never watch or go to games any more anyway.
