By PAM EASTON
ASSOCIATED PRESS
TEXAS CITY, Texas (AP) -
An explosion rocked a BP oil refinery Wednesday, injuring more than 100 people and sending flames and black smoke billowing into the sky in a blast so thunderous it could be felt for miles. At least 14 people were feared dead.
Workers were searching through rubble for survivors or bodies Wednesday night. The cause of the blast was not immediately known.

My brother is a Chemical Engineer at this plant and I looked for this story in the news without finding it due to the predominance of other news stories.
This same refinery had an explosion in March 2004.
This is my first post so please forgive me for any mistakes.

Apart for obvious well wishes to all injured.
This is happening during the high oil prices and news like this will continue to keep them high, my opinion.
Not that it matters what i think... ,

Thanks for the post.
Must have been a huge explosion if it killed that many people.
This will cause a spike in the cost of gasoline.
Please let us know if you have any more info on it.

Thankyou acapesket, I just got ahold of him 30 minutes ago and was so relieved to hear his voice.
This was a serious explosion and suspicious to me because of the one last year.

The pictures from the air are terrible looking and it blew out windows at nearby homes.
At least 100 are injured with at least 20 sent to 'burn' hospitals.

"This same refinery had an explosion in March 2004. "
Since the refinery seems to explode every March, it makes perfect sense to close it for a month every March for upkeep and maintenance. In April it could be reopened. This will immediately produce obvious benefits for everyone involved with it. (/pointy-hairedness)

Thanks Flavius. This plant produces 3% of the US supply of oil.

Everyone I want you to go read the first chapter of Red Storm Rising by Tom Clancy...its interesting and very interesting, considering all of our oil refinery fires of late.

I don't know about 'probablilites' but there were reports of men videoing the plant last year and it all seemed very suspicious.
This time there are too many dead and injured.

I haven't read the book but assume it must predict something like this.
Texas City is FULL of chemical plants, I have friends who are wanting to move away from there!

Yes, the Houston TV channel was already predicting higher prices because of this!

Thanks for the update site rd16989, it's pretty much what I already know. I hate it when they come out right away with the 'no suspicions' disclaimer!! You know there ARE suspicions.
