Imus charity questioned
WSJ: Cost of bringing sick children to ranch run by radio talk show host getting a look.
Talk show host Don Imus blasted The Wall Street Journal for a story questioning the costs incurred by his Imus Ranch charity.
NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Radio host Don Imus is facing criticism from the Wall Street Journal Thursday for the costs incurred by his charity that brings sick children to his ranch for visits.
The paper, quoting the filings of Imus' charity, reports that it spent $2.6 million in 2003 and $2.7 million in 2002 to bring 100 children to the ranch each year. That works out to just under $3,000 per night per child, which the paper reports is far more than spent by other charities.
It said that Camp Starfish, another well-known charity for children, hosts over 150 kids a summer on a budget of $360,000 a year, while actor Paul Newman's charity, The Hole in the Wall Gang Fund, has a budget that's more than twice as large as the Imus Ranch but hosts 10 times as many kids at its summer camp.
The paper also said the charity is supposed to account for or be compensated for the personal use of the ranch by Imus and his wife, but hasn't done so.

Sucks to be the subject of a media attack huh Imus?
The idea of the charity is extremely noble and I will not knock that at all. The question is if Imus is cheating on his taxes or not.
The Imus Ranch is a 3,000-acre authentic working cattle ranch nestled in the rolling hills of New Mexico below a majestic mesa near the town of Ribera, fifty miles northeast of Santa Fe. The ranch provides kids with cancer or serious blood disorders, and children who have lost brothers and sisters to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, the experience of the great American cowboy.
This guy is such a fraud. All he has done for years is hauk his nacho chips and salsa and talk about NASCAR with his retard brother.
I think its great that he gets kids with cancer working for free on his "ranch" and then feeds them tofu.
Always knew this was a shady deal.
Throw the book at this bum!
Perhaps IPUS protests too much.
Certainly doesn't come as a surprise. I, like I suspect many, have always thought this whole thing was a big scam to build a nice vacation / retirement spot for "The I Man"
I don't question Imus's charity, because I know nothing about it. I question his talent, and how anyone can stand to listen to his show.
I question his wife!
This week he threw his friend Pat O'Brien under a bus when his 'sex talk tapes' came out.

In defense of Imus -- if his statement about the WSJ reporter rejecting an offer to take a trip to the ranch (on Imus' dime) and see it for himself is true, then the reporter's credibility is shot as far as I'm concerned.
All that self-obsessed b*stard DOES is pat himself on the back. He's one of those liberals who's deep-down guilty about all the money he's made so he must make such a big deal about his ranch activity. It's not the ranch or the kids, it's HIM!
Yeah--he kept talking about how awful the pat O'Brien thing was but if he didn't talk endlessly about it and play the tape, I never would have known about it. Imus is truly a horrible person. And I think Bernie and Chuck are really no better.

Amazing how much you guys all despise Imus and gang but listen...listen...listen. I think the show's hillarious some of the time but always better than anything else on the boob tube at that time of day.
"All that self-obsessed b*stard DOES is pat himself on the back."
Too true, I stopped listening to him because I couldn't stand to hear another word about Deidre and the baby. To me boasting is ALWAYS in bad taste.
I will also note that I heard Howard Stern question this ranch project years ago. When the place got covered in Architectural Digest, or somesuch.
In all fairness Imus probably doesn't realize that the gov't thinks ALL the money is really theirs.
