IBM Breaks Own Supercomputer Record: 133 Trillion instructions per second.

IBM has one-upped itself. Big Blue has revealed that it has broken through the 100 teraflop mark and developed the world's fastest supercomputer for the United States National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).
The system is a derivative of IBM's BlueGene/L supercomputer, which won the supercomputing crown back from NEC's Earth Simulator. The NNSA machine is used to simulate nuclear tests as part of an ongoing maintenance program for the U.S. nuclear stockpile.

You must be an Apple computer owner.
Apple loves to talk about speed, and do all the time for marketing purposes. But their super computers are networked toys compared to the heavy hardware like big blue. And big blue is not even the biggest baddest machine on the block.

People that like tech care? Not everyone on freerepublic need politics, etc 24/7 - we need to take a break once in a while. Also, since this is tech.. its very nice to see America leads in something that contains a computer chip these days.

Something of that size isnt messured like that.. A semi highend CPU like a Xeon 3.4 GHz system will push 8.8 teraflops sustained. Figure the best high end CPU's for home for 2005-2006 use will push 10-11. There are chips that push 50-60 but they are used at Nasa and such.
