Minutemen to cover larger area of border than originally planned
"One of the organizers of the Minuteman Project has reported that, due to the unexpected number of volunteers that have committed themselves to the mission, even more of the border will be guarded than was originally planned.
In addition to the strip of border between the Huachuca Mtns. and Douglas, AZ, additional volunteers will be deployed in the Columbus, NM area and both east and west of Nogales, AZ."

The MM also has the handheld thermal imaging equipment, Gen 3 night vision devices. Being able to see the illegals hiking across the desert from half a mile away does give them some security from attacks.

After a while you reach a point where you can't worry about what everyone thinks. We are there with Terri Schiavo and we are there at the border. The Minutemen are absolutely doing the right thing. But, I don't trust govt. to support them.

Good. They will need every advantage they can get. It must be like walking a tightrope out there, worried about some illegal who might stub his toe and get the ACLU to represent him in a million dollar suit against anyone who can afford to be sued.

These people have to be stopped before someone gets hurt. The whole country is already being "hurt"! Build the WALL, so no one NEEDS to be hurt!

>>I just hope the Minutemen stay within the law so that they become heroes rather than criminals in the eyes of the American public.<<<
staying within the law has nothing to do with it... they are and will be pecieved as the powers that be in wash. dc and the media WANT them to be. Fox/Rice/Bush have already helped the smear campaign toward the MM along. innocent until proven guilty hasn't existed for years, and this administration has shown no more regard for the Constitution then the last... i'm sorry to say - but not surprised.

Some of the ranchers closer to the border are not allowing the MM to cross their property because they are too close to the Mexican border. They are afraid of vigilantism from Mexican drug cartels if they do. Calling the Sheriff, who could take an hour or more to get to their property wouldn't have much effect at preventing or arresting angry Mexicans from cutting their fences, would it?
These people would come in, cause the damage intended and be back across the border into Mexico before the sheriff even arrived.
We all know that our law enforcement people aren't going to pursue revengeful criminals across the border into Mexico.
Build the WALL now, and solve all these problems.

They said that during Holy Week Mexican Nationalists come across the border to shop at a mall in San Antonio.
There's a difference between being a "National" of a particular nation, and being a "Nationalist." Hence, they said that during Holy Week Mexican
Nationals come across the border to shop at a mall in San Antonio, where many drunken
Nationalists sneer at them for their strange ways.

I think it would be much less costly to just change the laws and stop ALL benefits to everyone in America without the proper papers. No drivers licenses, no free or reduced education at any level, no first aid or medical, no food stamps, no bank accounts or loans, no anchor babies, nothing at all unless you are here legally.
Make it where an illegal would not want to even think about crossing our border because there would not be a single advantage for them.

From what I've gathered about the Minutemen, so far, is that they're a bunch of good, and well intentioned, people who are doing a necessary job. They are doing what our government refuses to do......protect our borders.

We often copy Israel on defense matters. They built a fence. It would cost untold millions to do the same thing here but still would be far cheaper than if only "one" of the wrong terrorists gets through.

These people have to be stopped before someone gets hurt
The American people have been terribly terribly hurt by illegal immigration. While crooked employers save money in wages, the American people are stuck with increasingly burdensome taxes to pay for the illegals schools, health care, housing and impact on our power, water and roadway infrastructure.
The American people have been hurt by a duplicitous government who barks at us about the "rule of law" but then turns around and says that anyone who will come here and work for $5 a day is welcome. The selective application of the rule of law to support an obviously corrupt relationship between our government and the employers of the illegals, hurts the American people.
The American people are also hurt by the loss of their culture of liberty. Schools cannot teach the founding principles anymore because it "offends" the foreign nationals who come to live here. So the idea of individual liberty, property rights, fair play and judeo-christian law are fading from the memories of most Americans, and the new ones, are not assimilating or learning these things.
No, illegal immigration has to be stopped. It is the American people who are being hurt.

sorry guys. i let the MM bashing get to me.. i read you though.
Travis.. i'm still curious who Gilchrist was quoting in that letter to the FBI though... wasn't that W's comments the other day? it reads in the letter like it was a ACLU quote?
