That a LEO would consider himself to be "paramilitary" is pretty disturbing. He probably doesn't really know what the definition of paramilitary is.

I agree .. I'm disturbed by that too.
No state or county or city police are considered paramilitary.
Wouldn't paramilitary require NG forces - not regular police ..?? Anybody know ..??

LE is only paramilitary in that it has a rank structure, chain of command analogous to the military and sworn uniformed personnel. In that it could be considered a potential supporting arm of the military, "paramilitary" is definitely a poor defintion.
