U.N. chief Kofi Annan will be blamed for failing to pay enough attention to the conflict of interest caused by his son's work with a contractor involved in the Iraq oil-for-food program, it was reported yesterday.
Kojo Annan will be accused by investigators of using his father's name for personal gain...........said the report in The Wall Street Journal.
And Kofi Annan's relationship with Kojo blinded him to his son's willingness to use the family name, said the Journal's account of a report to be released Tuesday by a U.N. inquiry committee headed by former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker.
The younger Annan was a consultant to Cotecna, a Swiss company, which in 1998 won a contract to check shipments to Iraq under the United Nations' oil-for-food program.
...........Volcker's probe suggests Kojo Annan received nearly $400,000 from Cotecna far more than the $160,000 the company has acknowledge paying him as a consultant........

Only $400K? Tip of the Oil-For Food scandal iceberg.
There's a thousand ways these bottom-feeders could have tapped into the OFF billions.
Clinton pardonee, Marc Rich's name has been bandied about in the OFF scandal discussions...... Rich, convicted of being the USA's biggest tax cheat (for which Clinton pardoned him), is a master money-launderer and operates thousands of global so-called "trading companies" that could have been used to do the insider deals.
Stay tuned.
If they blame Kofi, that would be a complete whitewash. The problem is not any one man. The problem is institutional. The cancer at the UN has long ago metastasized.
Kofi is culpapble b/c the OFF scam was facilitated through his son.
That's awfully mild language. They're covering for Kofi. This is a whitewash.
I'm not holding my breath. If they convict him (years, decades from now) I'll come back here and eat this post.
This is actually pretty funny.
I think it is highly unlikely that he "failed to pay enough attention". It seems to me that the REAL problem is that the $400K for Kojo actually GOT his attention ...
Kofi made a deal.....he'll resign if they whitewash the report.
Hmmmmm.......maybe Kofi turned in Kojo b/c he knew the son was holding out on him......the $400K was peanuts.
Affirmative action in action.
Just send this SOB and his dad to Iraq to be judged for war crimes and causing the death of thousands of innocent Iraqis.
Once some left winger is tried for supporting despots by free people and handled appropriately after the trial, this bs will not be so prevalent.
OK by me......best idea to date.
