I had no idea, either. Cochran still plagued with mystery illness

Friends Stand By Cochran During Health Crisis

He’s the man behind O.J. Simpson’s “not guilty” verdict, and he protected P. Diddy, but now America’s most famous celebrity lawyer, Johnnie Cochran, has a different fight on his ands. “Extra” got the emotional details straight from Cochran’s former court TV co-host and friend, Nancy Grace.

“My immediate response when my family called to tell me Johnnie was sick was to pray,” Grace told us. “I was deeply saddened. He and his wife have been friends for many years now.”

What exactly ails Cochran remains a mystery. A spokesman revealed he is recovering from a neurological condition, and reports that Cochran is suffering from brain cancer have been denied.

In an interview with “Extra” in 2002, the legendary lawyer said that when it is his time, he knows what they’ll write on his tombstone: “‘If it doesn’t fit, you must acquit,’” he said, adding, “But hopefully I’ve done a lot more than that.”

Fortunately, Cochran’s people say his condition is not life threatening, and his friends think he’ll be back on the docket in no time. Grace insisted, “He will charm the nurses, the doctors, the illness, he can charm a bird out of a tree.”

But in addition to his charm, friends believe that it’s Cochran’s determination that will carry him through.

This is sad news!

I saw what he did for a kid on "Extreme Makeover Home Edition". Was a real treat for the kid. Johnny Cochran jumped a bunch of points in my eyes that day.

If Beethoven were alive today, he'd probably be clawing at his coffin trying to get out!

Nope. Too busy decomposing...

That is funny, say what you want about my sense of humor. I hope he was at peace with God.

Wow, from that story it didn't sound like a life threatening illness.

He was only, I think, 68. Shocking news for those of us who weren't aware he'd been ill.

He let them go into his office, take his chair, books etc, all for a kid who wanted to be a lawyer to decorate his room. You should have seen the kids face. I was deeply touched by that.
