so the gas fairies strike in MI as well ? Isn't it amazing how refined gas prices jump at the pump the day the price goes up on the barrel, when we all know that that barrel is still in the ground and not yet refined ?

Jack Daniels jumped about $2.00 this past year and that was less than a gallon.

I'll be surprised if the price of milk, bread and other basics stays low after this huge hit. In spite of ridiculous fuel costs, the retailers have been trying to hold prices down, but they can't do it much longer if they're getting hit with these increases as well as the average commuter.

This is going to hurt our economic recovery worse than anything else.

I'm beginning to think that knocking over one of those fuel trucks might be a crime in the future that people will commit.

San Diego has had the highest gas prices in the nation for over two years. Two summers ago, I paid about 2.20. Then, it went down to about 1.50-1.75.

We have been averaging, at local gas stations, about 2.45 for regular unleaded. Price Club/Costco is about 2.20. Navy Exchange gas stations were about 2.18, last time I bought there.

Some folks say it will drop back into the $20s per barrel. With the demand ever increasing and the supply not keeping up, I don't see how the price can go down. Where will tha bail out come from?

In the same boat as you my man and it is damned frustrating. I hold out hope though for my new (liberal by birth) wife!

Since I am from the third biggest exporter of Oil, I have mixed feelings about the oil price. It is really good for my countrys economy, but bad for others. Still good to have the black gold. So I kinda like the high oil price

If this happened a little later on in the year, last year, we would be talking about how ugly and drunk the First Lady, Tarayzuh H, was at her husband's inauguration.

GB dodged a bullet on the price hikes that happened last spring.

Ya'all are pikers...average price here in Central Cali. is $2.49, with a couple of local (Hanford, CA) Chevron's at $2.65. Nymex Crude Oil $56.85...down a bit today.

The oil price cannot fall down that much, because of Chinese and Indian economic expansion. Pretty soon the OPEC dont have more capacity.

Back in 2000, a problem with the Wolverine pipeline caused gas prices in Michigan to reach the low $2.30's per gallon. Michigan is not only at the end of the pipeline but we're land locked, so that cuts down on competition.

(Sigh) $2.35 . . . those were the good old days.

A week or two ago it jumped 10 cents a gallon in the Chicago area, too. We are now paying around $2.25-.45 for unleaded. At least that's what it was when I was out this morning. It could have jumped up again.

Yeah, this morning's spike was quite a shock, but all I seem to think about is the fact that this is what the liberals wanted all throughout the 90's (and perhaps now), when they lamented that we don't pay up the nose for gas the way the vaunted Europeans do. I like to remind some of my friends that sometimes you don't like it when you get what you think you want.

I was going to do that, but found out the only station that carries it is 25 miles away and then I found out they sell it for a little more then regular.

Doesn't Chicago have boutique gas? I know its been more expensive for many years now . . . better keep an eye on those pumps this afternoon. I hope you don't experience what I have!

"Antiquated refineries in the US that are unable to keep up with US demand."

Refineries in the US are typically "rebuilt" every 4 years. The process is called turn-around. Though we have not built refineries on new land, every refinery is modernized every 4 years.

Here in Macomb county I paid 2.15 yesterday and today I passed the same Speedway station selling for 2.45. I said a prayer of thanks that I bought when I did.

I haven't had to fill up in awhile. If it's that bad in Jackson, I DREAD the prices in Howell or Brighton.
