NY Times is the source. I was reading and started getting nauseated.

Poor illegal hiking two miles through the desert---blah blah blah.

Mexico is a wealthy nation, Gold, Silver, precious and semiprecious gems, oil, tourism, manufacturing, fishing, farming and so forth. Most all the wealth goes to prop up a few elites while the rest of the nation lives in abject poverty.

I visited Cancun not long ago. They have so many resources, yet the infrastructure is third world.

America shouldn't ask Mexico, we should DEMAND governmental reforms in return for a guest worker program.) Geez!!

Oh by the way--VIVA LA MINUTEMEN.

If he is illegal, how is it that he's part of the 'system', paying taxes and Soc. Sec. He'd have to have a Soc. Sec. number under which both were collected. If that's the case, then he's in the system, and would receive benefits when the time came, wouldn't he? I'd think that illegals would want to be paid under the table, so that no one could track them.

The SSA sends employer "no match" letters to app. 130,000 companies each year. These companies submitted W-2 earnings data that contained ten or more bogus SSNs. Surprise: the companies are mostly agriculture, hotels and restaurants, and unskilled service companies.

Hint: ILLEGAL immigrants use phony/stolen SSNs. Virtually every day there's a news story about bogus SSNs. Every year the SSA sends out about 9 1/2 million employee "no match" letters to individuals.

The "no match" earnings data go into the SSA's Earnings Suspense File (ESF).

The SSA money withheld by the employers goes into the Treasury. The data in the ESF are never purged until the earnings can be transferred to valid SSNs. The ESF contains data dating to 1937.

The ESF size started exploding in the late 1990s. It is a severe problem for the SSA. Congressional hearings have been held to discuss the problem.

The NYT's employee's article is accurate concerning the SSA stuff.

He left out some things important is all. One thing left out is the fact that ILLEGALs can claim SS credit by becoming legal and getting a valid SSN.

Think about the work load when ILLEGALS get "amnesty." It happened after the 1986 amnesty. The size of the ESF went way down as data were transferred from the ESF to the master earnings files.*

Washington knows which companies hire ILLEGAL immigrants as W-2 employees. We don't need shiny new laws for government and business to ignore.

* I make that claim based upon how the size of the ESF shrank immediately after the 1986 amnesty. I have not seen a source to confirm it.

In the southwest, we have a water shortage and our roads are a disaster due to the hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens vehicles using them daily.

You have a water shortage because of agriculture putting water on millions of acres of what is normally desert and because of people watering their grass.

If we had the FairTax, HR25-S25, it would put an end to all of this. They would pay taxes on all goods purchased with whatever money they make, under the table or otherwise.

This is true, but many anti illegals are not about taxes, contributing to society or anything else. You should read posts 5 ("They have been a blight on our culture and way of life.") and 6 ("the dirtballs") as examples. They simply don't want them here under any circumstances.

Well, we should be able to enjoy our own lands but we can't because we have to share it with illegals! Duh, this is OUR country, not theirs! We didn't have a shortage of water before they came. I'm supposing you're one of the lawbreakers who hires them.

Rush just talked about this article, calling it absurd.

True, the Press is trying to form opinion in the country rather than report the truth.

You're absolutely correct in what your analysis.

Rush's claim of absurdity was aimed at the Press trying to discredit what the Minutemen have accomplished.

I've seen estimated figures in the neighborhood of $41 billion per year illegals cost taxpayers.

If that's true, each of the conservative estimate of 8 million illegals are a cost of abt. $5,125 each.

Where's the benefit when their "$2,000 toward Social Security and $450 for Medicare" is dwarfed by an additional $2,600 in taxpayer funds?

There is none.

I don't think it's absurd

I do! The NYT is using this as a justification for giving them legal status.

At that point, they are no longer contributors to Social Security but rather a huge addition to its unfunded liabilities. People on the bottom end of the earnings scale eventually take out far more than they ever pay in. And as somebody else pointed out, they will be entitled to credit for all of the monies they paid in using a fake/stolen social security number.

And to make matters worse, when they are legal they will start filing Federal Income Tax returns and in many cases they will be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). The EITC was designed to address the regressive nature of payroll taxes and essentially gives low wage earners a cash refund in excess of the amount of taxes that are withheld from their checks. Net of EITC, their contribution to the Federal Treasury may well prove to be negative and that is even before they start consuming services.

Without illegal immigration, our population is projected to grow from about 300 million people now to 420 million people in 2050. How many friggin people do we want? We need these poor workers like a hole in the head.

So, what is your take on this article?

It's the latest round of misinformation being passed around to pave the way for a Totalization agreement with Mexico which will include Illegal Aliens at costs per GAO well in excess of administration estimates. To say nothing about the additional burden that will be placed on Medicaid and Medicare.

This, as George Bush goes around the country talking about the insolvency of the Social Security Program. It's hard to take this guy seriously about anything.

It is impossible to know exactly how many illegal immigrant workers pay taxes. But according to specialists, most of them do.

I still don't believe it, anywhere they can, they pay them cash, nothing withdrawn and no records!

Where do they obtain the SS numbers/cards and how (if ever) is it verified if the number is legitimate?

I think this is a bunch of crock that the administration is feeding us so that we will go along since this "helps" s.s.

If the President supports giving them legal work status, we should support him in doing so. He knows what is best for the country. I disagreed with him in the beginning, but we don't need to split on issues to let the Demon-Crats take any offices. I support my President, period.

You sound like a Lemming going over the cliff...or one who would drink Koolaid at Jonestown..

He knows what is best for the country

and what makes him so all knowing? Why doesn't he share his secret with the people he works for, US? What part of the country is he doing best for? I have more faith in my take on the situation than his..of course I am not looking out for big business to have their cheap labor subsidized by middle class taxpaying Americans.....His plan should be supportable with facts, where are they? History shows amnesty for illegals a failure.

Hopefully Common Sense will prevail in this issue, and not blind faith in one person (Presidente Bush). You scare me.

This is another liberal "let's all feel sorry for the illegal immigrants" article. I voted for prop 200 here in AZ to pass so that I don't have to pay out of my hard working wages for people who DON'T BELONG IN THE US! The need to STAY HOME in MEXICO and earn money there!

In Los Angeles, the money they contribute to Social Security is more than spent in free medical care, free education for their children, and the destruction of the environment. They have clogged our freeways, crowded our hospitals, schools, and prisons. They have been a blight on our culture and way of life.

As a fellow Californian I agree 100%. Illegal immigration has led to this state's near-bankrupt condition. There will never be enough money to pay for them, especially with many Californians moving out because of them.

We have elected a Governor who doesn't seem concerned about the mess he has inherited.

But Mr. Martínez - who comes from the state of Oaxaca in southern Mexico and hiked for two days through the desert to enter the United States near Tecate, some 20 miles east of Tijuana - contributes more than most Americans to the solvency of the nation's public retirement system.

What a crock.

No where, do they even consider just how Martinez, and others like him, fraudulently got a hold of a social security #, in which he can also apply for loans, rent a home, borrow #, open a back account, and ruin the hell out of someone else's credit.

Nope, identity theft doesn't bother the libs a bit.

Again, Rush was right on this one today.
