D.C. Planned Parenthood Conference
RFL Stage at Cornerstone

National Pro-life T-shirt Day
Events coming up
Terri Schiavo

It is with great sadness that I report that Terri passed away last Thursday, March 31. She was the victim of a heinous crime, unjustly sentenced to death via starvation and dehydration.

We are outraged at the deplorable actions that led to Terri's death. We hope you are outraged too because her rights were trampled upon while she was treated with less dignity than an animal or a criminal on death row.

We pray that this very unfortunate outcome will not be in vain and that America will wake up and change its ways before more disabled persons are sent to their death by their spouses, family members, the courts or even their representatives.

Terri, we will never forget.

Terri's parents, Bob and Mary Schindler have asked that cards or donations instead of flowers be sent to the address below. The Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation will continue to operate for a while. Their work is not yet done. The Schindlers also send their deepest appreciation for all the prayers and support that have poured in nationwide and worldwide.

Terri Schindler-Schiavo Foundation
C/o Bob & Mary Schindler
4615 Gulf Blvd #104-103
St. Petersburg Beach FL 33706

I urge you to continue praying for Terri’s family and our nation. For more information click here.

Pope John Paul II

We also mourn the passing of Pope John Paul II, who has been such a huge inspiration to us as a leader in battling the Culture of Death. His challenge to usher in a Culture of Life through all means possible is one we most willingly accept. Pope John Paul II, we thank you for the example you gave and the legacy you have left us.

Let’s pray that God blesses us with holy leaders to help us create a culture of life and to show the world the love of Christ.

D.C. Planned Parenthood Conference

Did you know that Planned Parenthood has surgically killed 3.5 million babies since 1970? Did you know that Planned Parenthood brought in over $104 million from its surgical abortion business? Did you know that the Planned Parenthood’s 2003-2004 annual report shows our elected officials gave them $265.2 million taxpayer dollars? Finally, did you know that Planned Parenthood continues to sell the abortion drug regimen RU-486 (over 95,000) even after 18-year-old Holly Patterson was killed by complications from it?

If you’re nearly as outraged as we are, then join us! From April 13-16 Planned Parenthood will be hosting their annual conference at the Washington Hilton in Washington, D.C. In response we’ll be hosting a few of our own events to expose the truth about Planned Parenthood.

Wednesday April 13

Saturday April 16

We need your input

American Life League’s third annual National Pro-life T-shirt Day was a smashing success. The pro-life message was out in force, especially at public high schools where sex ed is taught and teen pregnancy is the consequence. Thousands upon thousands of shirts were worn on April 26, stirring up countless conversations, changing hearts and minds to the truth.

Next year’s T-shirt day will be April 25, 2006 and we expect this one to be bigger than ever — but we need your help! Please send your ideas, comments and suggestions our way. Do you have a T-shirt design or a slogan idea? Do you have suggestions on how to get the word out? We’re interested, so write to us at info@RockForLife.org or click here. Thanks for your help!"

Vote for “Can I Live?”

Last week we told you about the song “Can I Live?” by Nick Cannon. For those of you not familiar with it yet, it’s based on the true story about his mom, who was pregnant with Nick when she was only 17. She was considering abortion, even going so far as to the abortion mill. Thank God for Nick and everyone else, she chose life.

The video gives the song an extra edge, seeing the coldness of an abortion clinic inter-cut with singing children. It’s very moving when Nick hugs his mom at the end. You can check out the song and the video by clicking here.

“Can I Live?” is getting some airplay on MTV and BET. Consider voting for “Can I Live?” so they will air it more often. You never know, maybe we can get that video on MTV’s TRL or BET’s 106 & Park: Top Ten Live! Click here to vote for it on BET. Click here to vote for it on MTV. Scroll down nearly to the bottom, click on "other" and enter the fields. Let's help get this video more airplay and get the message to more people that need to hear it!

Partner with RFL this summer

Many of you ask, “How can I help Rock for Life?” With the summer approaching our needs are going to be great. Please look over the short list and let us know if you can partner with us this summer, by spreading the pro-life message to our generation.
  • Pray! Pray as often as you can for Rock for Life. The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but the prayer of the upright is His delight (Proverbs 15:8)
  • Gas cards. Rock for Life will be traveling nearly 7,000 miles this summer to attend 11 Christian music festivals. With gas costing over $2 a gallon, we expect to incur expenses over $1,500 on gas alone. Would you consider sending us a gas card to help ease the burden?
  • Food. With all of the traveling this summer, along with hosting volunteers at our headquarters, we will be going through a lot of food. Food on the road can be expensive. Would you consider hosting a meal for us while we are traveling? If you live near our headquarters, would you be willing to host a meal for a volunteer or two?
Donate. Without the financial assistance from supporters like you, we could not do it. Click here to make a donation to Rock for Life

There is so much more you can do to help us make this summer a huge success. Click here for more ideas. Thanks big time!

Summer Tour

The Summer Tour has been going great. Hearts and minds are converting to the pro-life side. At our information table, we have a three-ring binder with a warning label on it. Inside are graphic photos of abortion and detailed descriptions of abortion procedures.  After looking at this booklet many people have gone away pro-life.

Our stage at Cornerstone was one of the festival’s best and it was rockin' from 2 p.m.-midnight. In between each band we were able to plug life and throw out many free shirts. Erik's wife Tina gave a brief presentation about life before the emotionally charged Still Remains set. At least one girl was deeply moved by what Tina said, and she is now motivated to take a stand for the babies and their mothers.

Shout outs go to:

Ø      Jeff Tragedy, for booking bands and managing the stage

Ø      Volunteers: Kortney Blythe, Jessica Corrill, Melissa Powell, Daniel Hunter, Sam Hammer, Mike Frazier

Ø      All of the bands that played our stage, visit RockForLife.org/Cstone2005.html for a list

Ø      Roll Call Crew, for keeping it real

Ø      All of the dirty hippies and hxc kids who slept on the stage at night to keep it "safe"

Ø      Donors, who gave us prepared meals, food and gas cards!

We’ve spent a lot of time talking to people, particularly many who were not very supportive of Rock for Life or the pro-life message.

Sadly, a lot of misconceptions have spread (like "Rock for Life is a political front group" or "Rock for Life doesn't care about the women"). But we corrected that. Since Rock for Life is not a political organization, people from all backgrounds are able and encouraged to unite in the same message of life — with no exceptions, no compromise and no apologies.

This past weekend we were at Lifest in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. A number of bands supported us there by letting us throw out shirts after a brief pro-life speech, or they did it themselves! Special thanks to Superchic[k], Poor Man's Riches, Kids in the Way, Spoken, Flatfoot 56, Silverline, The Fold, The Wedding, Seventh Day Slumber, Deju Normal and Edi.

We are stoked to be out talking to everyone, encouraging our generation to take a stand for life. I write to you from Waukesha, Wisconsin as we prepare for tonight’s a Rock for Life show. Tomorrow we'll be traveling to Oakdale, Minnesota for another Rock for Life concert and details are below.

After that it's SonShine Festival (July 14-16) in Willmar, Minnesota and Shine Fest (July 17) in Bourbonnais, Illinois. If you attend one of these festivals, make sure to stop by, hit us up and find out how you can make a difference.

Summer tour

No sooner do we arrive safely home from our summer tour travels than we need to prepare and leave for our next batch of festivals. We have five festivals to attend in the next three weeks, as well as our own stage at Purple Door. That’s over 7500 miles! Your prayers for safety, lives saved and hearts and minds converted are definitely needed. If you’re looking for other ways to help out Rock for Life, click here. Check out the schedule near the bottom of this report.

Also, we’ve posted some pictures from our summer tour travels. You can view them by clicking here. Also, eMotion Web Design has posted pictures from our stage at Cornerstone. You can view those by clicking here. Let us know what you think.

Supreme Court

Presumably, most of you are aware that U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, critical swing voter on many decisions, announced her retirement effective upon the confirmation of her replacement to the bench. Since then President George W. Bush has nominated Judge John Roberts to replace her in our nation’s highest court.

This announcement has led to a flurry of activity from both pro-abortion and pro-life forces. Although Roberts’ personal views on abortion are not clear, he is known as a strict Constitutional Constructionist. Since the U.S Constitution does not give anyone the right to kill an innocent human being by abortion or any other means, most believe Roberts is pro-life. We remain cautiously optimistic.

In light of all of this, we:

      1.     Ask all people of faith to pray that God’s will be done

2.     Ask the members of the Senate Judiciary Committee to conduct fair and civilized hearings, and to reject the extreme messages from the pro-abortion advocacy groups who want only justices who support abortion on the bench

3.     If the hearings find that Judge Roberts will serve our country by strictly following the Constitution, and not by legislating from the bench, then we ask the entire Senate to vote “yes”

4.     Ask Judge Roberts to faithfully ensure justice for every person in America , both before and after birth until his or natural death

Dallas alert

Planned Parenthood is hosting a “Teen Savvy” event next Thursday, July 28 at
North Dallas High School in Dallas , Texas . The event is aimed at exposing “at risk” children to Planned Parenthood’s philosophies. This can’t be good, since Planned Parenthood is a business that makes money off kids by getting them hooked on sexual immorality, then selling them birth control and abortions. In other words, Planned Parenthood puts children at risk – born and preborn!

In response, a peaceful, prayerful presence has been organized to teach the attendees the truth about Planned Parenthood. If you are interested in attending, contact us for details.

Approve Alito

On Monday, several RFLers were out in front of the US Supreme Court during the Alito hearings with a message of “Justice for All – born and preborn” and “Roe has been saved! She’s now pro-life.”

At 9 a.m. we joined a news conference that was already underway. At this event several post-abortive women from Silent No More and Operation Outcry were speaking about their abortions, and how they regret them. A small group of vocal abortion supporters was present and repeatedly taunted these women, saying things like “You lie!” and making ridiculous statements accusing the women of being racists. Interestingly, the most from that group were men. Near the end of the news conference, the group stormed the event, getting in front of the cameras, and even being physically abusive towards some attendees. After a minute of commotion, the police escorted the members of the group away from the cameras.

After the event, dialogue began between the two opposing groups. Some of the abortion supporters were open to discussing their views, but others were more content to just yell rude and ignorant statements. Sadly, the problem with many of them was that they were staunch believers of false rhetoric that has been put forth by big abortion groups for decades. Calling people who oppose abortion “racist” or “sexist” is not making a case for your point of view – it's name calling, plain and simple, and is better left for schoolyard bullies, not political activists at the Supreme Court.

Noticeably absent from the Supreme Court on Monday was anyone from Planned Parenthood, National Organization for Women, NARAL, or the Feminist Majority Foundation. They attempted to bring huge numbers of people from all across the country to their anti-Roberts protests (while he was still being considered for the Supreme Court), but they were only able to gather a few dozen. This was a big letdown for them, and we suspect is the reason they did not show up this past Monday.

Thanks to all who joined us!

Planned Parenthood condom key chains

In its continuing cycle of offensive behavior, Planned Parenthood has just released a new line of condom key chains. The most offensive keychain takes the famous Michelangelo painting in the Sistine Chapel of Adam reaching out to God. In Planned Parenthood’s version, God is giving Adam a condom. You can view these lines of key chains by clicking here http://www.ppct.org/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=ppct&Category_Code=KEYC .

***While we were preparing this report we just heard that Planned Parenthood's web site for these key chains was overloaded after the Drudge Report picked up our newsletter! For much of the afternoon, Planned Parenthood of Connecticut hasn't been able to sell key chains — or anything else — online.

Approve Alito

The Senate Judiciary Committee has rescheduled its vote on Judge Samuel Alito's Supreme Court nomination to Tuesday, January 24. That gives us some extra days to get more Approve Alito petitions signed and delivered to the committee. If you haven’t signed the “Approve Alito” petition, go to www.ApproveAlito.com  http://www.approvealito.com/  and please do so. If you haven't already done so, please forward the web site to all your friends and family.

Assisted suicide

We are deeply saddened by the Supreme Court's ruling that Oregon doctors can assist in the killing of their patients. All human beings are persons with the right to live. Oregon’s assisted suicide law violates human dignity and should be struck down. The Supreme Court had an opportunity to stand up and do the right thing. Unfortunately, the court failed us.

This ruling simply greases the slippery slope towards decriminalizing euthanasia in all 50 states – more reason to do all that we can to get Samuel Alito on the Supreme Court.

Planned Parenthood

Planned Parenthood received a stunning defeat yesterday in their efforts to drive a wedge between parents and their children in New Hampshire. Planned Parenthood challenged a state law requiring parents to be notified before their minor children abort their own children. The case eventually reached the Supreme Court, which ruled that the lower court could not strike down the parental notification law. That was nice, but unfortunately the case was sent back down to the same court for further consideration.

Stay tuned as we announce some new exciting efforts to battle the efforts and effects of Planned Parenthood.

National Pro-life T-shirt Day

If you:

1. Are attending Rock for Life’s Training Weekend

2. Stop by the American Life League display at the Holiday Inn on The Hill (Congressional Room) – it's across the street from the Hyatt

3. Attend the American Collegians for Life conference at Catholic University (where Rock for Life will have a booth and Erik will give a presentation at 2:00 PM Saturday)

… you’ll have an opportunity to be one of the first to purchase the official National Pro-life T-Shirt Day 2006 t-shirt. If you miss out, you can catch a glimpse in the next Rock for Life Report. Or simply check out www.ProLifeGear.com  http://www.prolifegear.com/  early next week.

Speaking of T-shirts

Last month a federal judge ordered Fillmore High School in New York to permit students to wear pro-life T-shirts. Last year, a student was harassed for wearing an Abortion Is Homicide T-shirt to school. The Thomas More Law Center tried convincing the school to allow the pro-life speech, but the school refused. TMLC filed a lawsuit and won.

Rock for Life Report 1.30.06

Training weekend recap

We had an incredible time hitting the streets of DC with so many of you. Instead of us rambling on and on about it, we’ve decided to let YOU write the recap. With that in mind, this is what YOU’VE told us:

Rock for Life training weekend was awesome. It was my first time going and I definitely am going again next year. DC is a very liberal place and it felt so good to get out there and let people know the truth about abortion and our Savior Jesus Christ. My favorite part was sidewalk chalking NOW's route to the U.S. Supreme Court. The whole street was filled and they heard our message loud and clear!  -Katie, Toledo

I loved our prayer presence at the pro-abortion rally Sunday evening and seeing about four times as many pro-lifers there as abortion supporters. Another cool thing was not being able to get into the youth Mass at the MCI Center because it was already filled with 22,000 young people. We were directed to a parish a few blocks away, which was also overflowing. What a wonderful problem to have when there are so many pro-lifers!  -Mary T

This weekend was so amazing. I thought last year was awesome, but this year definitely topped it. I loved how we had so many opportunities to actually go out and do stuff like talk to people on the streets while handing out literature, sing in front of the Supreme Court and Planned Parenthood, and just totally be a witness for Christ. It was such an uplifting yet humbling weekend. I got the spiritual fix that I needed but at the same time I was humbled and grateful for the life that I was given. Thank you so much for all your hard work, you guys rock my world :)  -Nadyne Z

It was great to see such a great turnout at this years march for life. My sincerest hope is that there won't be another march and that this country (and everyone around the globe) will come to understand the sanctity of human life. Thanks to all those who came. You'll be in my prayers.  -Matthew S

Thank you for joining us. We are so blessed to work with all of you.

A major emphasis we placed on the weekend was being a visible witness for life on the streets of DC. If the media is any gauge of our success, I think we did a fairly decent job. With that in mind, here are a few links to some online news media showing our efforts.

Next year’s Training Weekend will be Jan. 19-22. Mark your calendars and make plans to join us for another amazing weekend hitting the streets of Washington, DC being an effective visible witness for life.

We’ve uploaded some pics from the Training Weekend.

Alito update

Tuesday morning (Jan. 24) we delivered thousands of our Approve Alito petitions to Senator Arlene Spector’s office. He chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee.

I was joined by Erin and Daniel from Phoenix RFL, as well as Jeni from Michigan and Dwain from the American Life League offices.

That morning Judge Alito's nomination was approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee, so thanks for signing and promoting the petition. Your efforts certainly made a huge difference.

Now Alito must face a full Senate vote. Right now senators are debating whether to approve Alito or not. Most believe his approval is pretty much guaranteed but I don’t think it’s a done deal. You never know what the abortion supporters will do as a last ditch effort to derail the process. So keep calling, email and faxing your support for Alito to your U.S. senator.

Stop Planned Parenthood Tax Funding

Did you know:

1.      Planned Parenthood Is the largest abortion chain in America and has killed more that 3 million innocent children at its facilities

2.      Planned Parenthood’s top goal for the next 25 years is to push its agenda of promiscuous sex everywhere in our society

3.      Planned Parenthood puts minors on birth control without parents’ knowledge or involvement

4.      Planned Parenthood has demonstrated a willingness to cover up for rapists and child predators

5.      Planned Parenthood pushes pornography onto children with shocking and offensive websites, books, and literature

6.      Planned Parenthood is openly hostile to Christianity, and regularly mocks people of faith

7.      Planned Parenthood hurts women with misleading and dishonest medical information

8.      And Planned Parenthood does all of this with over $265 million dollars a year of your tax money

If you’re like many of us who are fed up with this insanity, then take a stand. Tell your elected officials that you do not want your tax dollars going to this organization. Start by signing the petition at www.StopPlannedParenthoodTaxFunding.com  http://www.stopplannedparenthoodtaxfunding.com/ . After you’ve signed it, tell your your friends.
