Hillary Meter: Makeover is Working, Only 43% Believe Clinton is Liberal
National Ledger ^ | April 7, 2005 | Staff

Scott Rasmussen has announced that he will begin to track Hillary Clinton's extreme makeover as she attempts to soften her liberal image and move towards the political center. If his latest "Hillary Meter" poll is any indication, Clinton is having success.

The latest numbers according to Rasmussen Reports:

--Currently, 43% of Americans view the former First Lady as politically liberal. That's down from 51% at the end of January.

--At the same time, the number who view Mrs. Clinton as politically moderate has increased from 27% to 34%.

--32% say that if she is the Democratic nominee, they will definitely vote FOR Hillary Clinton.

---37% say that if she is the Democratic nominee, they will definitely vote AGAINST her.

-- 26%) say it depends upon who she runs against.

Rasmussen notes that she still has only a 44% approval rating with 40% disapproval, and more women would vote against her, than for her.

Hillary is re-inventing herself as an anti-abortion, gun loving, military hawk with each passing day. Oh--and expect the God references to flow from Hillary as often as she can work them in. The extreme makeover is in full swing.

This is a brilliant idea by the veteran pollster Scott Rasmussen.

That is a very good point and many people will immediately notice this and get turned off by this screeching voice. Hillary Clinton borders comedy when she tries to give a "motivation speech", it is a joke for late nights comedy shows. And if people thought that John Kerry lacked the charisma and motivation power wait until they see Hillary Clinton in action, compared to her John Kerry will look like "Cicero".

Putting her extreme liberalism alone, that will definitely destroy her, the American people will not elect someone like Hillary Clinton who does not have at all the make up of a President of the United States of America.

"At least the Thanksgiving dinner conversations are not boring."

I have a hard time breaking bread with him any longer. Now that the scales have fallen from my eyes and I truly SEE what the Dems are for and have always been up to. He's the only one in the family that leans left, so to "save him" MIL called a moratorium on all political chatter at family gatherings.

So...we all just go out behind the barn and smoke and have a beer and all pick on him, anyway, LOL! (So far, we've not gotten in trouble with MIL over it, so her 47 year old "little boy" must not be tattling on us, LOL!)

"I don't believe Hitlery is liberal or conservative, she is for herself and only believes in herself."

I agree she is for herself and only believes in herself, but don't you agree her position on most issues is the liberal view?

She will be crushed. Just remember what we did to John Kerry.

That's the frightening part. Kerry was the most liberal senator from the most liberal state in America. He was a phony war hero and engaged in traitorious activity after the Vietnan war meeting with the Vietnamese communists twice in Paris during the war. He testified before Congress that our veterans were war criminals and drug addicts. Kerry was not charismatic, was a poor speaker, and had no national name recognition.

Despite all of this baggage, Kerry came within one state of defeating an incumbent, wartime President. He received the second highest vote total of any Presidential candidate in history. More importantly, he received 251 electoral votes. Kerry was not/not crushed or defeated soundly. If it wasn't for the SBVFT, Kerry might very well be President today.

No Dem candidate will be crushed. Clinton will win all of the states won by Kerry and probably New Mexico and Iowa, which were won by Gore in 2000. She will have a good shot at Ohio, Florida, and Nevada. She will be running against a comparatively unknown GOP candidate. She will have plenty of money, a top flight political organization, and a very sympathetic and supportive MSM. In my mind, Hillary is the odds on favorite to win it all. It will take a massive effort to defeat her.

I agree. Plus the fact that the last Beast poll turned out to be run BY Beast supporters who asked mostly Beast supporters.

That kind of poll may help swing some of the wishy-washy jellyfish, but it won't swing a FReeper or anyone else of even reasonable intelligence.

Also, that kind of poll leaves Demwits scratching their heads after the results come in. The exit polling from the 2004 election, and uber-Dem Zogby's survey poll word play should tell them all they need to know (If they care to remember).

Good insight, also if the Repubs machine backs a socially moderate candidate even more problems will arise. Face it, the GOP needs the Christians at the voting booth.

I know several lifelong liberals (democrats) who have told me personally that she is the 1 candidate even they would not vote for. A couple said they would vote Republican before they would vote for Hillary. I take them at their word.

I don't think that the rapist enabler would carry the socialist mecca of Michigan.

Forget Michigan. All she needs to carry is Detroit by the usual Dem margin, aided and abetted by voter fraud. The last time Michigan went Rep was 1988.

The GOP will need a huge voter turnout. Hillary may be a polarizing figure, but it will take an active, agressive GOP effort to galvanize the faithful. Regardless, it will still be a close election.

I don't believe that claim. They may say that, but there are few who will actually do that.

Her views cater to those that will vote for her.
She is attempting to sound more conservative right now and I suspect she will start to vote that way to.
