Wounded in Fierce House-to-House Fighting, a Marine Tries to Recover.

By NICK WATT

TAOS, N.M., April 10, 2005 — Huddled in an abandoned house last November, Sgt. Jason Arellano gave his platoon a pep talk as they prepared to push deeper into insurgent-occupied Fallujah.

"So they're right here in this area. There are going to be more and more as we push further down," he said. Arellano gave the speech after a Marine on an adjacent street had both his legs blown off by insurgents' grenades. "You don't want other squads giving speeches to their men about one of us, right? I don't want that," he added.

Its interesting to finally see a piece on the MSM that is not political or partisan, that is not throwing mud at the governement, and that focuses on the story, in this case a Marine who was in wounded in Fallujah.

But told me he that if he recovers sufficiently from his wounds, he would like to rejoin his unit in Iraq.

Nope. I don't believe it. The MSM tells me every day that troop morale is down, and that Iraq was "the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time" and that we're not winning the peace. Who would want to go back? Who am I going to believe? The Mainstream Media or some Marine?

I agree with your take on MSM. People ask me all the time about how bad it is here in Iraq. My reply states to not believe the b/s coming out of MSM. This is no where near the "wild wild west" that it appears to be on the screen.

Ham radio is one of my hobbies and I use it to talk all over the world and also to several Iraqi friends here in country. There's a multitude of Iraqi citizens who feel "blessed by Allah", to quote an Iraqi friend, to have us here. Our arrival and continued presence helps keep the murderous Baath party at bay.

Most of the servicemembers here know the real truth. We are here and live it every single day. Sure, it is dangerous work, but most of us know why we're here. To be on the front lines of justice and democracy is the ultimate reward for many of us.

My deepest respect to my brother Marines. Their heroism and determination makes all our hearts swell with pride.

Best Regards,

I thought you folks might like to see this. I can't tell you the source, as I don't know who I was.

Regardless, lots of "insurgents" get blowed up real good. (To quote Big Jim McBob and Billy Sol Hurok.)

You and your buddies take good care my FRiend. Know that you have many thoughts, prayers and well wishes coming from home here. Wish I could remember that quote about the "taste of freedom" a warrior knows and others don't, but I'm sure that you all know the taste there. God be with you all.

Fallujah ended up being wrecked anyway. Perhaps a "test" of the neutron bomb should have preceded Marine attack. Anything to save US lives...B-52. Massed arty. Tank assault. Anything...
