But if it's dead can you torture it?

Well this is step 2 to illegalizing hunting in Texas. Step one was hiring(electing) the idiots who thought it up and let themselves be pressured by the minority.

Torture for ANY animal is unacceptable but so is coyotes living in the inner city in Houston. I have heard from LE that people living near Memorial Park are losing small pets to coyotes.

So if a Coyote is on my property, attacking my pet or my child, and I SHOOT it, I could be charged? Hogwash!

So, they want to outlaw killing wild animals? That means we won't need our guns for hunting anymore right? And if we don't need our guns for hunting and the nanny state is gonna ensure our safety and freedom, well, gee, we don't need guns at all.

Sound like I may be on the right (or leftist) track with my thinking?

I can't believe this article is from Texas. Sounds like they would try this in one of the communist states on the coast first.

If this law passed in Texas, then the best way to handle it is to flood the phone lines to the police department everytime a coyote (or other furry creature) comes in or near your yard.

It wouldn't take long before they either 1:repeal the law or 2: make it against the law to call 911 about (wild animals).

Probably #2

That and other such recent incidents, like the shooting and decapitation of a feral cat in Waco, have led to a bill in the Legislature that would extend an animal-cruelty law from domestic pets to wild animals. House Bill 590, sponsored by Rep. Fred Brown, R-Brazos, is in committee.

Ol' Fred better.....do some "research" here..Or he's gonna be "skinned"...by the voters.

FWIW-

A couple of years ago a young girl in my county was was attacked by a Coyote, her face was mutilated and will require several plastic surgery reconstructions.

So far as I know no pictures were ever published of the wounds, perhaps the local "media" does have some limits after all.

Maybe the people in TX need to be reminded that Coyotes are predators, not cuddly pets, before their own children are maimed?

Hunting is NOT "torture", and you cannot "torture" a dead animal!

This won't pass. This line of thinking is getting old. I am all for not torturing animals, but out where I live poeple as still dumping dogs and cats. I shoot any non-collared dog or cat or any animal that appears to have been dumped on sight. If anyone doesn't like it you are welcome to come out an adopt all of them and/or try to stop me and my neighbors. I refuse to allow my tax dollars to be wasted on programs or laws to increase our sensitivity to animals.

PETA sucks. I prefer my PETA ( People eating tasty animals ). Most of these goons make no correlation to that filet they are eating and where it came from and how it died. Liberal morons.

Torture for any animal is unacceptable.

At least it wasn't deliberately starved to death /no thread diversion intended

The perp should have just tied the coyote to a post and let it starve and die of thirst over 13 days. That would have been considered humane to liberals, unfaithful husbands, and certain idiot judges.

So shooting a wild animal is cruelty but starving to death a disabled woman (Terry Schiavo) is "choice." What a country.

I think when many people get elected to office or put in a position of authority, their head swells so much there is not enough blood getting to their pea brain to allow them to think with common sense...what else could cause these people to become immediately stupid?

This bill is stupid and I don't see it passing. In the rural area of the hill country where we live there is a $500.00 fine for an unconfined pet, be it cat or dog with good reason-wandering pets are fast food for coyotes and occassional mountain lions-it happens all the time. You can't even adopt a cat or dog from the privately funded animal welfare society in this county without signing a paper promising not to let it run loose. Coyotes are wild animals, as are raccoons. Both get shot if they are going into yards and trying to kill pets.

"Authorities learned that the construction worker could not be charged with a crime. 'Because the dog was actually a coyote, and because it had been shot before it was skinned, there was no legal recourse,' Guyton said."

Guyton then added, "And you Pro-Lifers need to understand that those partial birth abortions don't hurt much, so don't be looking for legal recourse there, either." (There. Fixed it!)

These PETA freaks are beyond the pale.
