BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- A U.S. citizen working for a contracting company was kidnapped at a construction site Monday in Baghdad, a U.S. Embassy official said. The embassy would not reveal the name of the American or the name of the company. The contractor's next of kin has been notified.

I think we have some Freepers who are contractors in Iraq. Please keep us posted if there's more info.

BTW,wondering if the reason the report doesn't use a pronoun, but says the "contractor," is that the kidnapped person is a woman. We have a couple of lady Freepers here who were over there as contractors, IIRC.

My girlfriend's over there, but she is setting up employment and training centers, not doing construction work as the stories so far imply. Supposed to come back on Friday...

FYI, Saturday was the one year anniversary of the deaths of six KBR truck drivers. At least two more were captured, one later escaped, one is still missing.

Sometimes the do, but working out in the open as they often do, a small security team is no match for what they might face.

MOST contractors work inside the wires and 'only' face the danger of indirect fire.

Look up Triple Canopy, Global Security, Erynis, Blackwater, Dyncoprs, etc for security opportunities. $600/day for some.

Or follow the like I posted above and check out all the security companies that have had fatalities.

Well, you can be sure Freepers are out there praying and thinking about her! I'm sure all is well with her, as you say, it sounds as if this person was in construction.

The US banned contractors from carrying weapons. Pretty dumb.

Hey Eagle Eye,
Three of those sixteen (16) killed in the Helicopter Crash in Afghanistan were Halliburton/KBR employees. The E-Mail we received from the Corporate level did not tell who the employees were pending notification of their next of kin. I think our company has now lost around sixty people so far in Iraq and Afghanistan. This would include both direct hires and subcontractors as I understand the situation. I hope this current kidnapping victim is safe and is found soon no matter what company he works for over there.

Not quite precise.

Not all contractors were covered by General Order #1 and even that did not disallow carrying but disallowed personally owned firearms.

Many contractors were loaned arms from time to time.

Private security guys are contractors, too and they are all armed.

I posted a link up thread that will show you info on known contractor deaths.

I don't beleive that they have all of the Turks that died on the roads near Fallujah, but I can account for some of them that I knew of or knew the circumstances of their deaths.

This morning CNN used the word "he" and said that 'his' family had be notified.

This guy could work for one of many different companies, not just the one big one formerly run by....

Well it really depends on his situation.

A lot of the KBR guys do a lot of travelling. Allegra, who I have pinged, was, last time I checked, still over there.

Quite a lot of the contractors have some sort of military escort. Unfortunately, quite a few are over there freelancing, so to speak, and they are easy targets....
