Finland wants wolf hunt
Finland has appealed to the European Union for permission to kill wolves that cause problems for their human population.
A Finnish delegation lead by EU parliamentarian Henrix Lax asked the EU's environment commissioner Stavros Dimas for the right to shoot wolves and presented a petition signed by 21,000 Finns, newspaper Dagsavisen reports.
The EU Commission ruled in January that Finland would stand trial for their wolf hunt.
Lax said that it was incomprehensible that Finland's EU membership meant that citizens had to live in fear of wolves," Finnish Broadcasting YLE reported.
In case no one has noticed, the enviro-whackos spend a lot of time and energy and noise about the Scandinavian countries.
The EU sucketh much.
Whatever happened to Sovereignty? I guess it's dead.
It looks like Finland has the Norway problem, that of inciting the environmental extremists.
I am not sure myself how large of a "problem" wolves are, but authentic Norwegians actually in Norway who post on Free Republic tell me that they are a problem, with killing sheep.
It's temporarily "out," but national sovereignty in Europe will come back.
It's all happened before.
Finland as a member of the European Union, has to abide by environmental laws made by the old men in Paris, Brussels, and Berlin--far away, of course, from any wolves.
Norway, not a member of the European Union, has to put up with Greenpeace and all those other extremist organizations every time Norway seeks to reduce some sort of pestilence.
Despite the "leftist" tendencies of Norwegians and Finns, one suspects "politically-correct" environmentalists are not popular in either country.
Opportunity Knocking:
Gather up all the Scandinavian wolves, put em on a big airplane and ship em to Wisconsin.

Do wolves eat cats???
One imagines wolves would eat cats, if they had a cat to eat.
I say that owning cats out here on the prairies of Nebraska (all neutralized, all shots current); Abbie, Snow, Junior, Apricot, Floyd, Gordon, Harold, George, and Ellie--and woe to any wolf that ever licked its chops at any of them.
You know, there's all sorts of odd animals in all sorts of odd places--Norway with bison, for one. Now there are mountain lions in.....Iowa.
They need to use the m-39 Mosin Nagant rifle to kill those wolves. It is a fantastic Finnish modification of the Russian Mosin Nagant and a great shooter!
But remember, Finland being a member of the European Union (which Norway is not), the Finns have to get permission from the old men in Paris, Brussels, and Berlin, to use those firearms, no matter how excellent those firearms are.
Suitibly primed with a few days hunger, those wolves ought to provide a real laugh riot.
Someone remember to bring a camera.
I live in a fairly rural area and while I can understand the feelings of animal lovers, am one myself, people need to understand the real world.
We have all sorts of varmits, coons, possums, rattlesnakes, coyotes, a few lynx and feral cats.
A few we can tolerate but sometimes we have to "thin the herd"
You know sir, that just might be a reasonable solution.
The deal is, in most "advanced" societies, the people furthest removed from a problem (judges from crime, for example, or politicians from poverty) are usually those put in charge of solving that problem.
The old guys in Paris, Brussels, and Berlin don't care if the Finns are getting overwhelmed by wolves, because the old guys in Old Europe don't have a problem with wolves.
Of course we all, including Norwegians and Finns, all love animals, even the ones who are nuisances.
I really doubt the Norwegians and Finns wish to eradicate from the face of the earth, all their wolves, every last one of them.
As you mentioned, one has to "thin the herd" once in a while.
What freaks me is that here in Nebraska, even though our population (human) has doubled since 1890, there are six times--I repeat that, SIX times--the number of deer that there were, back in the frontier days.
It's the high lysine corn they grow these days. It's all deer need to eat to survive.
Could the pEU get Spanish soldiers to attack Norwegian rebels? German soldiers to reign in Portugese separatists? I get the feeling that the pEU is going to crash, hard.

This is only gut instinct, not based upon any rational speculation, but I suspect when the young lads from eastern Europe get assimilated with the old men in the European Union, there's going to be some debauched decadent ancients slipping on some banana-peels.
In fact, I will go out on a limb and predict with some confidence that it will be the Bulgarians (who have done such things in the past) who will do it, upsetting the apple-cart.
And then Paris, Brussels, and Berlin, since they can't call the shots any more, will decide, nah, let's everybody go back to being separate countries again.....
