This is from Denmark...which a very different view of things than the rest of Europe. I've spent two summer vacations up there in Denmark...and they are the most pro-America country out of Europe. They view everything as if they were in the middle of the situation and how they would be affected...thats the difference. They've also come out and basically said they want Muslims who come into Denmark...to integrate into society. Denmark first, then your religion. This is the only country in Europe that celebrates the 4th of July...there is actually a giant picnic and bar-b-q which 10,000 Danes usually attend.

I agree. When I was stationed in Northern Germany with USAFE back in '87-'89, I went on leave and took a vacation up to Arhus, Denmark with my (then) girlfriend.

The pro-American sentiments were overt, obvious, & welcome, even to the extent of the two of us being admitted to a swanky Danish bar that usually required Coat & Tie for males and high-fashion dress from females on the simple fact that we were Americans, and in the military. We had no idea of the dress code before we hit the door; but the doormen--who certainly were large & numerous enough to have impeded any further progress from us, had they wished-- heard our accents and asked "are you Americans?"; us: "yes"; them: "Army, Americans? Air Force Americans?"; us: "Air Force"; them: "Not matter; come, come! Roy Orbison died tonight-sorry! Welkumm!!!"

I've long retained fond memories of Denmark in general and Arhus in particular after that experience (and it was, indeed, the day Roy Orbison died; the Danes mourned his passing as much as I, an American whom cherished his music, did).

We were the most under-dressed couple in the place, but neither of us paid for a single drink all night.

My respect for the penisula of Denmark has been quite high ever since...
