What do you know about Hal Lindsey?
Hal Lindsey ^

Posted on 04/19/2005 12:51:42 PM PDT by Hillary's Lovely Legs

I have been directed to read Hal Lindsey about the choice of Cardinal Ratzinger and future prophecy.

He appears to be a commentator, but I am getting a funky vibe.

Does anyone know anything about this guy and his prophecies?

You people who insist on a literal interpretation of everything in the Bible are inconsistent. For example, is the 70 weeks of Daniel 9 literally 70 weeks or not? 70 weeks is literally 49 days. Is it literal or not? If not, why insist that everything is literal?

Unfortunately for you, you are screaming out of ignorance. the english word "week" is translated from the Hebrew word "shebuim" which means a group of seven. Much like our word dozen. Depending on its context, sometimes Shebuim means seven days, other times it means seven years ie the definition of a jubilee or in describing how Jacob served Laban another week (7 years) for the hand of Rachel.

The readers digest version of Daniel's 70 weeks (Daniel Chapter 9:24-27) states that from the time the decree to reconstruct the walls of Jerusalem to The Messiah would be 69 weeks i.e. 69 times 7 * 360 days / year = 173,880 days.

The decree itself was a prophecy as Nehamiah chapter 2 explains that the Persian king Artaxeres (I think this was his name) decreed this during the Hebrew month of Nisan during the 20th year of his reign. Counting this many days from this know date in history points to April 6, 32 AD, which was the Sunday before Passover in the year 32. Many believe this was Palm Sunday (aka The Triumphal Entry) spoken of in Luke 19. Hosanna, Hosanna, Blessed be the name of The Lord. The final week (7 years) is supposed to be the Tribulation aka "The Time of Jacob's Trouble".

Please don't scream at those of us that take the Bible seriously if you aren't willing to try to understand yourself. If you don't want to believe, that's fine for you. I'm sure many (including myself) will pray for you.

That's a fairy tale - Jesus told us plenty of times that we were to "know" the times we were in.

Amos 3:7 - Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secrets unto his servants the prophets.

Matthew 13:11 - He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them [unbelievers] it is not given.

Colosians 1:26 - Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints.

Saints in the Bible refers to those who have received Jesus as their Savior.

While Israel became a nation in the eyes of the world in 1948, it wasn't 'complete' until the capture of 'their eternal capitol' Jerusalem in 1967.

Adding the 40 years 'generation' to 1967 would bring us to 2007 which is consistant with many prophecy scholars current understandings.

By the way, even interpreting 70 weeks the way you implied, your argument is still wrong. 70 weeks (english interpretation) is 490 days not 49.

i used to attend a church where he would come speak once a year... his talk was interesting...

the one thing i did like about him is he always ended his talk with the message that Jesus was the way, the truth and the life and that no one comes to the Father but through Him... and then he offered everyone the opportunity to receive Christ...

I can see anticipating, and being ready for it to happen, but I doubt he really means for us to obssess as to when. I guess I believe that the descriptions and warnings within the scriptures are meant more as a warning, and an explanation of whats to come than a code for us to break.

Hmmmm? Spending a little more time with the Father might have resulted in your knowing that HE said, "it's been given unto you to know the mysteries and secrets of the kingdom". Sorry.

The last time I saw Lindsey before he showed up on WorldNetDaily (thus, IMHO, damaging its rep) was when he promoted a book on syndicated TV back in the 80's about how the head of the European Common Market was the Antichrist.

Correct me if I am wrong -- wasn't he among the Chicken Littles regarding Y2K?

It was the sunned collapse of teh Soviet Union which led to the release of their unprotected nuclear material to be disbursed among the Islamic terrorist groups.

The end times scenerial depicts sudden nuclear destruction world wide, including biological and chemical weapons. The world moved much closer to being able to fulfill the end time requirements once the Soviet Union fell.

Hal Lindsay is a deccent writer, but he NEVER prophesied a date or a time, he just made observations, people twist things he said many times.

He is a Pre-Trib, Dispensationalist mostly, fairly sound, but a little television preacher is in him, a SMALL bit, but some.

However, he does have some good stuff, I would reccomend his writings as a 8 out of 10 scale.

And I don't believe that everything will center on Israel. This is a popular misconception.

You're wrong on that one, Israel is the centerpiece of the Bible, and the fulfillment of prophesy.

The Gospels passages that speck of the end times ie Matthew 24-25, a significant quote from Christ is Matthew 24:15 "“So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’spoken of through the prophet Daniel–let the reader understand", this speaks of the Anti-Christ in the newly constructed Temple referred to in Daniel Chap 9

In Matthew 24 Jesus was speaking of the generation that was alive at the time. The above verse was fullfilled in 70 AD when a Roman emporer came in and sacrificed a pig on the alter, the the temple was destroyed or as has been said, "not one stone was left upon another." God has one purpose, believers thru the cross. He used the faith of Abraham and his descendents to bring about the Messiah. There now is ONE FAITH. There is not a need for any temple as God will not go back the the blood of goats and bulls since the blood of Jesus has been shed for us. A new temple would mean nothing to God. He has built his temple with living stones.

"centers on Israel"

You are correct and a person I learn from is Billye Brim - http://www.billyebrim.org

She travels to Israel regularly and even speaks Hebrew. I've known of her ministry for 20 years. In 1985 she prophesied that Russia and China would become partners. In 1985 - that possibility was not even on the radar.

There is also a scripture where Jesus says we will not know when He will return. It will be as a thief in the night.

It will be a thief in the night for a lot of people, but not some of us, including Hal Lindsay...

1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. 3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. 5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

I think God is not bent on destruction, but restoration,

God loves us and wants us to be with him. But Christ was sent to be a judge (contrary to some's wishes). We can be with him through the Salvation He offers. If we choose to reject that, we will stand before the great white throne of judgement in Revelation 20. To quote Chuck Missler, "That's not a place you want to be". You are welcome to wish to be "Left Behind". If you are, I pray for your survival through The coming Tribulation.

I understand what you mean but the truth is GOD is the centerpiece of the Bible. It's a story about HIM. Jesus said everything in ther law, and the prophets, was written about HIM. He is the fullfillment of Bible prophecy. His birth death and Ressurection were the greatest events in human history. Another great book I recommend - A Passion for God's Story by Philip Greenslade.

"Thief in the night"

That's in vs 2, but in I Thes 5 - starting in verse 4 - it says:

4. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
5. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
6. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
