Chris Matthews is currently interviewing Sister Jeannine Gramick, a former nun who was booted out by then-Cardinal Ratzinger. Matthews said her 'crime' was ministering to gays, but obviously there is nothing inherently wrong with ministering to anyone, so I have to assume her actions went well beyond that. She has started a new sect called "New Ways Ministry."
In any case, Matthews was clearly in a quandary. He sympathizes with Gramick's liberal views, but, not being totally irrational, can't get around the unequivocal language of the Bible outlawing homosexual activity.
He asked Gramick what could she expect a Pope, even a liberal one, to do. She said that ultimately Catholicism is about love . . . "and following your own conscience."
HUH?
When a religion ceases to be about eternal moral law binding on its adherents, and to the contrary says that people are free to follow their own conscience, it ceases to be a religion.
Frankly, I was shocked at the vapidity and illogic of the sister's statement. If "following your own conscience" instructs a person to commit mass murder, is that OK too with the good sister?
Chris Matthews MSNBC ping to the Today Show ping list.
Apologies for the multiple pings, but it's an historic day.
The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick; Who can understand it?
Chrissy was very sullen today at the election of Pope Benedict XVI.
She must be MSNBC's go-to-gal on this issue. Earlier article about her here:

I really think Matthews is in a bind. He's too smart to be able to ignore, as this clueless 'sister' does, the Bible's unambiguous language. Yet it runs contrary to the DNC platform. What's a lib to do?

Statements, press releases, background regarding the May 23, 2000, Vatican decision to silence New Ways' co-founders and responses, press releases, statements regarding the July, 1999, Vatican decision to end the ministry of New Ways' co-founders Sister Jeannine Gramick and Father Robert Nugent.
Gee that sounds an awful lot like "Do what thou whilst." Hmmm, where have I heard that one before?
Thanks.
"If it feelest good, doest it thou!"
Thanks for the thread. I missed the beginning of the segment and was wondering who she was.
There is a whole bunch on Sister
You just watch the liberals freak out about this Pope
It's All About the Gays!
Then why even bother bringing the bible or God into it. If you have no moral absolutes, you have no church, you have a coffee klatch. Screwtape's minions did a number on this lady somewhere along the line.
I'm not Catholic, but I couldn't agree with you more. I was truly shocked. This is a woman who presumably has spent most of her adult life thinking about these profound issues, and the best she could come up with was to define Catholic theology as "follow your own theology," a palpable absurdity.
I think this Nun should follow her conscience and get the hell out of the Catholic Church and go join with the fag Bishop Gene Robinson. Real Catholics sure wont mniss her.
I had to watch ABC's coverage when the news broke at noon, because I was in a waiting room. I enjoyed watching the libs scramble for words but wish I could have switched to some other channels, too.
MEGASUPERBARFALERT: If anyone has recently swallowed poison and is need of an instant emetic, tune to Countdown on MSNBC with Keith Olberman. He opened the show by contrasting Pope Benedict with JP II, in every way trying to cast Benedict in a negative light, starting by referring to a Nazi past.
I never watch Olberman because he sickens me, but had left MSNBC on because I had been watching and reporting on Hardball. Disgusting.
