Nun silenced by new pope unhappy with choice

HYATTSVILLE, Md. - A nun who was ordered by Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger to stop ministering to gays and lesbians called his election as pope "devastating" for those who believe the Catholic Church needs to be more tolerant on social issues such as homosexuality. advertisement Sister Jeannine Gramick said the choice of Ratzinger, who as the Vatican's guardian of doctrine silenced her and Father Robert Nugent in a 1999 order, will likely prevent the church from "moving into the 21st century and out of the Middle Ages." Sounds like the Vatican chose well, and by listening to the MSM I was worried a Cardinal of Liberation Theology persuasion would be picked.

Pope John Paul II is still here in spirit!

I'm just curious as to why they didn't pick a younger conservative as pope. This guy is only going to be around for a few years and we'll have to do this whole thing over again.

Throughout history many Religions have been formed because of a basic disagreement between the teachings of the Church and the conflicts with either members or leaders of the Church.

Those who disagree with the selection should consider breaking away and forming their own brand of Religion based on what they believe in.

And while they do so, they can also sponsor the Gay Scouts.

As if that would play in Peoria.

I've got 50 cents that says she was never told to stop ministering to homosexuals. She was most likely told to quit endorsing homosexuality as being compatible with a Christian life.

I rather doubt that the nun was told to stop ministering to anyone. She was probably instructed to stop making stupid comments about the positives in homosezual "marriage" or the beauty of same sex relationships.

She's an EX-nun who refused correction and left the church. Why does the MSM have to feature her opinion on a glorious day when a new Holy Father is chosen? No bias here?

Speculation was that they might pick an older guy because they didn't want another 25-to-30-year papacy for the same reasons most other organizations/political entities don't want the same leader for very long periods: They acquire too much power and their influence is overwhelming. By the time JPII died, he'd appointed all but something like three of the cardinals in the entire world.

A 1999 opinion signed by Ratzinger said Gramick and Nugent's teachings were "erroneous and dangerous" and that they "caused confusion among the Roman Catholic people." Both were ordered to end their ministry. Nugent conceded but Gramick chose to continue speaking out, eventually leaving her religious order.

Apparently she didn't think being a catholic nun required her to teach catholic doctrine. Silly former nun.

Homosexuality is not a "social issue" its a self destructive hedonist behavior that's a result of a mental disorder.

Yep, and that is the way the Church has always wanted it. Remember, John Paul II was the third longest serving out of 264 Pontiffs. A Pope who only has a decade or so of expected leadership is historically who is chosen.

Being a practising homo was wrong when I was a child and was still wrong when I was in college. But now it's OK? and we're self-righteously talking about our enlightend pov and how our opponents are keeping us in the Middle Ages?

Perspective please you mouthy nun. It's not about being permissive, not about being taken up with the now, all in the name of undisciplined, sinful tolerance. It's about following God's will not your every lustful desire.

Good grief!
