On Wednesday morning, White House congressional liaisons attempted to reach out to Ohio Republican Sen. George Voinovich, who had previously met with Bolton privately and had told White House and State Department handlers that he was supportive of the nomination. But Voinovich wouldn't make himself available, a bad sign.
It looks to me as though the White House and the congressional leadership have completely lost control over the course of events.
Sen. Lugar as to be the DUMBEST bag of rocks that the Pubbies have....at least until I saw Voinovich and Hagel.
Oh Lord give me strength. I don't think my honorable senator, the Chairman Richard Lugar, needs help from anyone to look weak and indecisive.

This is turning out to be the weakest majority party in history. They can't even keep their own membership on the same page, much less try to counter the opposition party.
The chairman IS weak and Indecisive. He didn't need any help from the W.H. to be known for what he is.

We have a lot of wimps for Republican Senators. But the strongest of all Republicans must include the President. He must drop the SS trail and get back with the Senate Republicans and give them a pep talk. He should question those Republicans why they are left leaning. Leadership is a responsibility the President must take. What good is it doing for the President to travel to various States pushing the SS. The States don't pass legislation, the House, Senate, and with his approval or veto, the President.

Lugar should have called for the vote before Voinovich returned instead of waiting (it would have been 9-8 then). At the very least he could have taken charge, recessed, asked Voinovich to abstain if he couldn't vote "yes", or postponed the vote until this morning. Waiting three weeks for the info to drip, drip, drip out and to allow the MSM cut Bolton up even more is inexcusable. Lugar's a weak, fish-handshake chairman who's lost control of the committee he chairs.
Then again, maybe it just shows again he has a hard time showing up for work and lacks a serious work ethic (which is why the time to vote came and he didn't seem to be sure what was going on).
Voinovich is dirty. None of this passes the smell test.

1) Agreed to investigate its leading House member on the basis of fraudulent and trumped up charges.
2) Tanked the nomination of Bush's UN ambassador even though they have the majority.
3) The biggest legislation they can brag about was changing bankruptcy laws to screw the citizens and favor the credit companies that paid for it.

My question is why weren't there any republicans passionately defending Bolton the way Biden & co. were slandering him? Biden scared poor Voinovich. This has been a disheartening week. Who the hell do we turn to?
