Castro Used Stand-In (Not Fidel)

Every politician in a tight race has wished he could be in two places at once. Julian Castro has managed to pull it off.

Castro said today that his identical twin brother, San Antonio State Representative Joaquin Castro, took his spot on the San Antonio City Council barge during the Texas Cavaliers River Parade Monday night so he could attend another event.

"He was standing in the River Parade, because I had to host a neighborhood leaders meeting in District Seven," Castro told 1200 WOAI's Rosalinda Montero.

Castro says that is the only event where Joaquin has stood in for him, and he says all of his other campaign appearances, including the estimated fifty debates he has participated in with rivals Carroll Schubert and Phil Hardberger, have been personal appearances.

The Castro brothers have in many ways lived parallel lives. Both are 1992 graduates of Jefferson High School, both attended Stanford University and Harvard Law School. Joaquin's district in the state legislature is roughly similar to the district Julian represents at city hall.

"He has helped out a lot in my campaign, Castro said of his twin brother, "but never impersonating me."

"At most events, everybody knows it's him because he talked to folks. They can tell that it's him and not me."

The River Parade appearance did not involve speaking or meeting people, and the sign on the barge simply said "San Antonio City Council Members" and did not mention Julian by name. But the script provided to River Parade announcer Bob Guthrie did in fact mention that Julian Castro was on the barge, and there was no indication to the parade goers that the councilman's twin brother was standing in for him. Schubert was on the barge.

"The River Parade was a bit different from other events, because he didn't have to talk to anybody. They were just watching him float by. At other events, everybody knows it's him."

Castro didn't deny that having a twin brother who can serve as a stand in may give him the advantage over Hardberger and Schubert, neither of whom have identical twins.

"I hope it gives us the edge. Anything we can do to get out there and campaign even more."

When asked how voters can tell which Castro is which, Julian joked, "my brother says I'm one minute uglier than he is."

Looking at Castro lately, the nastiest trick he could play on his wife is getting in bed with her himself.

"WhoLian" Castro is the John Kerry of Texas politics. For some reason he can't be trusted.

This dim-witted dhimmicrat was on local San Antonio TV news .... just grinning and saying that there was no harm done.
No apologies were given. Unfortunately the non-English speakers will vote for this clown.
