Shocker: Ted Kennedy's In-Law Spied on the Clintons
NY POST ^ | April 22, 2005 | DEBORAH ORIN and IAN BISHOP in D.C. & HOWARD BREUER in L.A.

Posted on 04/22/2005 2:34:20 AM PDT by Liz

Sen. Ted Kennedy's brother-in-law is the mystery witness who raised $100,000 for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and then went undercover and wore a wire to help the feds nab one of her top moneymen on charges of fund-raising-fraud, The Post has learned.

The witness, Ray Reggie, 43, has a sister, Victoria, who married Kennedy in 1992, and prosecutors say Reggie secretly recorded "incriminating" statements made by David Rosen, a top Clinton fund-raiser.

Reggie was close enough to Bill and Hillary Clinton to sleep over at the White House in 2000 and stay up chatting with the first couple into the wee hours.

Sources tell The Post that he is the "cooperating witness" — described but not named in recent court papers — and that he is likely to testify at Rosen's May 3 trial as part of a plea deal struck with federal prosecutors.

The well-connected Reggie stayed undercover for nearly 21/2 years, helping the feds on multiple probes, and was still wearing a wire and making secret tapes as recently as last December, federal documents show.

Reggie hobnobbed at the very top Democratic levels. A month after he'd raised $100,000 for Hillary Clinton's Senate campaign in 2000, Bill Clinton invited him to a state dinner for the king of Morocco — and a sleepover at the White House.

Reggie told The Times-Picayune of New Orleans that he and his wife later got a post-midnight knock on their bedroom door. The Clintons had come to chat.

Yesterday, Reggie, a Democratic campaign consultant who worked for both Clintons and for Al Gore, pleaded guilty in New Orleans to unrelated multimillion-dollar bank-fraud charges.

The battle for the control of the democratic party continues between the Kennedy-Kerry ultraliberal wing and the Clinton-Clinton crime cartel.

"Reggie worked on Clinton's campaign alongside Rosen, helping the Democratic candidate raise millions of dollars for her Senate campaign. Clinton is not considered a target of the probe, which is led by the public integrity section of the Justice Department. No conversations between Reggie and Clinton were recorded, the source said.

I want to warn everyone....this probe, investigation, prosecution...whatever you call it........will never hurt either Clinton.

Perhaps.....it depends on what Reggie has in over two years of tapes of ROSEN, and whether or not Rosen is willing to "roll over one more time".

Two kinds of bets here:

1) What will be the method of the "accidental death?"
2) Over/under on the number of days he will live, starting 4/21/05.

Vegas will likely have a line on both by tomorrow.

Do you think this will get legs and walk, or fall over on its' face? I guess I'm numb from all the other hopeful things we've been through with these two since '92.....

"This should come as a surprise to no one. The battle for the control of the democratic party continues between the Kennedy-Kerry ultraliberal wing and the Clinton-Clinton crime cartel."

Yep! This makes a heck of a lot of sense. It is no secret Teddy and the Vietnam Vet want control over the party.

You can bet Ted knew all about his in-law spying in the Clintoon camp. Think about it. If Hitlery is taken down, Kerry's chances to get the nomination again will improve greatly. Kerry will do anything to get back to the Convention. It is his life long ambition to be pres. He is forever trying to compare himself with the first JFK and Teddy would like nothing better. Who knows how many favors and policy influencing decisions Kennedy could make from the shadows, due to the skeletons in Kerry's closet.

Fortunately, Kerry will never be elected as long as the Repubs can get their heads out of their proverbial butts and unite the party like we asked them to. The American people are sick and tired of all this B.S. going down in DC. What do we have to do, mail a red/blue map to every single one of these idiots? How much clearer can it be?

Yes, daddy was a prominent judge. But he's had his own troubles with the law.

Check out:

http://www.tulanelink.com/tulanelink/reggie_box.htm

In 1992, Reggie was convicted of misapplication of funds of the Acadia Savings & Loan of Crowley, a thrift he founded in 1959 and which failed in 1987. The transactions allegedly contributed to the failure of the Louisiana Bank and Trust, which also failed in 1987. Reggie was board chairman of both institutions at the time. The questionable loans allegedly generated lucrative legal fees for Reggie's law firm, which also served as Acadia's general counsel [20-22].

Initially, Reggie was charged in a 13-count indictment involving the transactions at Acadia S&L. He was acquitted on six counts in his first trial in June 1992. In his second trial three months later, Reggie was convicted on two charges, but U.S. District Judge John Shaw dismissed one of them. In July 1993, Reggie pleaded no-contest to another charge of misapplication of funds, and the remaining four charges were dismissed. Reggie was ably represented by his good friend Camille Gravel [21,22].

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. had also sought $40 million from Reggie and others in connection with the failure of the thrift. The debts ultimately were paid by U.S. taxpayers, according to federal officials [23]. For his role in defrauding the savings institution and the public, Reggie faced up to 10 years in prison and $500,000 in fines. Nevertheless, Judge Shaw sentenced him to only 120 days of home confinement and a $30,000 fine [21-23]. Reggie was also temporarily suspended from the bar of the state Supreme Court and U.S. Supreme Court [24-26].

Among the considerations that may have influenced Reggie's relatively light sentence were his close ties to prominent political figures that included Louisiana Governors Earl K. Long, Jimmie Davis, and Edwin W. Edwards, President and Mrs. John Kennedy, President and Mrs. Bill Clinton, and Massachusetts Senator Edward Kennedy [7]. In 1992, Senator Kennedy and Reggie's daughter, Victoria, a Washington, DC attorney specializing in banking law, were married on the 3rd of July at Kennedy's home in McLean, Virginia, both for the second time [27,28].

Following his trials, Reggie continued to be dogged by legal problems, and in 2001 he was the target of a federal lawsuit seeking $819,424 in alleged tax debt arising from an alleged scheme he used to dodge taxes in the 1970s by transferring property to his wife, Doris Boustany Reggie [29]. In 2004, the Internal Revenue Service agreed to dismiss its lawsuit following the receipt of $575,431 from the sale of property held by the Reggie family in New Orleans [30,31].

Apples don't fall very far from the tree.

Just got to the thread, but the point you made about the "players" all thinking about conversations they had had is exactly the reaction I had when the dems were making such a big deal about those audio tapes that Bushs "friend" made, and then wrote a book---

I said that those dems shouldn't get too giddy, because THEY don't know who might have taped THEIR conversations and deals!!!
