Affirmative Action Factor In Atlanta Shooting?

ATLANTA, Ga. — Investigators blame last month’s deadly Atlanta courthouse shooting on a series of mistakes and missteps. But some affirmative action critics say it boils down to the fact that there was a woman deputy escorting accused gunman Brian Nichols.

“You have a female officer who is about 5 feet 2 inches tall, versus a criminal in this case — a former linebacker who is 6 feet tall,” said John Lott, a resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, a think tank in Washington.

Those in favor of affirmative action — the policy of hiring and recruiting with the intent of eliminating effects of past discrimination or preventing discrimination altogether — say the practice shouldn’t get the blame for the March 11 shooting rampage at Fulton County Superior Court in Atlanta.

“Affirmative action certainly cannot be the scapegoat for sloppy procedures or for not being attentive,” said Bob Ethridge of the American Association for Affirmative Action. “A lot of different things went wrong.”

Nichols, about to face a retrial for rape and other offenses, allegedly overpowered the female deputy escorting him to court. With her gun, police say Nichols shot the judge who was to preside over his trial, the court reporter, another sheriff’s deputy in his path as he fled and a U.S. customs agent who was working on his home in a nearby suburb.

I found this about the offender:

In the rape case, Nichols is accused of breaking into his ex-girlfriend's condominium, binding her with duct tape and assaulting her. Authorities say he brought a cooler stocked with food to the home for the crime. "He said he would assault her for three days until her birthday," Howard said.

Cold as ICE.

He should have been chained to the floor (out of sight of the jury of course).

It is heartily ironic that those who were hurt in this misadventure were probably those who support such idiotic ideas that put females on the front lines, high-school dropouts into nuclear engineering, and sleaze bags into presidential suites. Serves them right. Cry me a river!

As a female I want the biggest cop or fireman coming to my aid.

There are some jobs men are just plain meant for and cop, fireman, and soldier are three of them.

I've heard people say the court and others were taken by him, but the guy was caught with two shivs, prior to his murderous rampage.

Shivs mean he premeditated the violence. Being caught with them means the cops knew before hand he wanted violence.

I've been looking for his nice guy stuff with the cops and have not found it. Got any helpful hints where I can find it?

Thanks

DK

While perhaps true, casting affirmative action as the main problem in this matter is to miss the forest for the trees. The essential problem is that Atlanta is a city run by a black political power structure. It is corrupt and incompetent. Fulton County is heavily influenced and in some ways controlled by the city of Atlanta - so it is no surprise that that it's Sheriff's Department is likewise corrupt (see the reign of the previous Sheriff, Jackie Barrett) and incompetent. We've had deliberate efforts to underreport crime, we've had failures to inspect the largest public venues in the city for compliance with fire and safety codes, we have a constant stream of blown prosecutions by the Fulton County DA. It's a mess. And yes, affirmative action (gender-wise) may have had a role in this - but the answer is a much larger view of how the city does not work and how some Fulton County agencies do not work, and why.

I was hoping that the FBI would have asserted some jurisdiction due to the connection to the murder of the immigration agent - but they ceded it to the Fulton County Sheriff - and we all know where that will end up.

it saddens me to see so many mimic the left on this thread... political correctness caused atlanta shooting... just like guns kill and should be banned.

the unfortunate events happened because of a ruthless killer committing violence against the authority that was to convict and sentence him.

no one demands political correctness... people voluntarily practice it. submit to it.

fight the power.

Keep,in mind that "affirmative" action is being inflicted on our schools as well. Do you want a surgeon who was passed thru school via affirmative action? If we lower the standards of physical performance are we lowering the standards of intellectual performance as well? Will you bet your life on it?

Sadly, the only way to avoid this real risk is to refuse to be treated by a surgeon (or represented by a lawyer) who is a member of a preferenced group that may have received such preferences.

Affirmative Action CAUSES racism.
