Awwwwwwwwwwwww..........and at the same time, those nice agents did Clintons bidding, helping to hand Elian over to Castro. If Elian would have asked Agent Mike not to be sent to Cuba, would Agent Mike given Elian that too?
As someone pointed out, Elian never lived with his father. But what I really want to point out is that, until the Elian case, the U.S. precedent was NOT to send children back to totalitarian dictatorships. These cases have come up before, and were always decided in favor of the child staying here. As was true in Elian's case, until Klintoon made a deal with Castro and overrode the courts' decisions.
That's right 'Mom'! Glad to have you on our side (ex-Dem, that is!).
Rounding up the usual suspects.
Just as the military is under the commander in chief and is required to follow orders, so were those agents on the scene that day.
It would not be at all surprising. Castro was handed a major victory when Elian was turned over to Cuban government, aided and abetted by Dan Rather and the old media.
Don't forget Clinton.
Yes, we musn't forget her.
Both of them, LOL - and crazy Reno as well.
yeah. life's never the same after you meet the Storm Troopers.
Some people are immune to logic and facts.
As they say, none are so blind, that will not see.
Those were NOT Elian's own words, as I am sure you know., but some gullible people think he made that speech of his own volition.
He read from a prepared statement.
This is the thread:

But check out the article I found later:

Standing on a stage in his red and white school uniform, the 11-year-old former castaway faltered at times as he read a prepared speech...
Elián's speech also touched on the Cuban government's campaign to free five convicted Cuban agents who are serving sentences in U.S. federal prisons. He echoed Havana's frequent defense of the men as patriots who were working to prevent terrorism in Cuba at the hands of extremist exile groups in Miami.
"Those five are heroes of our history," Elián said. "On behalf of the Cuban people, I want to ask the American people to do [for them] as they did for me to return to my family."
Elián ended his speech by saying Cuba's socialist revolution "is as big as the sky" and repeating the common slogan, "Homeland or Death, we shall overcome!"

Elian would NEVER say stuff like this on his own -- note he "faltered" as he read that garbage.
Not one. And you would think (a) if there were one, Granma would have put it everywhere and (b) at some time throughout this whole mess, somebody, somewhere, would have made the kid smile. I mean, tell a little joke, give him a piece of candy, something.
I don't think you can make that comparison. There are criminal penalties for refusing to follow a lawful order in the military.
The agents are civilian employees of the federal government. AFAIK, there are no civil or criminal penalties for disobeying a superior. The worst that could have happened to an agent who refused to participate in the raid would have been a reprimand or dismissal, correct?
If Daddy cared that much about the boy, he'd have married his mother and made him legitimate. So much for family values.
Besides, when it comes down to it, I tend to lean more toward a) the wishes of his mother, who was the custodial parent and clearly wanted him in America, and b) her family, who made a good life here and (here's the complicated part) NOT IN A FREAKIN' DICTATORSHIP.
Juan Miguel Gonzales was (and remains, should the need arise) a tool of Fidel Castro, who could not let someone stay in the United States who could possibly be sent back to Cuba without protesting.
Here's another very tough concept, so sit down before reading:
Sometimes, the fact that it's "the law" doesn't make it right.
Thanks for the links, btw.
Sad isn't it? Poor kid, but you know, as long as Castro is happy...
And no one has ever come over all sick in Florida in April. It'd just be coincidence that someone happens to go down from heat after the objectionable order is voiced.
There are all sorts of ways to avoid doing something that's morally reprehensible.
