Putin deplores collapse of USSR
BBC News ^ | April 25, 2005

Posted on 04/25/2005 2:25:36 AM PDT by HAL9000

Russia's President Vladimir Putin has described the collapse of the Soviet Union as "the greatest geopolitical catastrophe" of the 20th century.

Mr Putin's annual state of the nation address to parliament was broadcast live on Russian television.

He said the break-up of the USSR in 1991 was "a real drama" which left tens of millions of Russians outside the Russian Federation.

He also said Russia must develop as a "free and democratic" country.

But he stressed that Russia "will decide for itself the pace, terms and conditions of moving towards democracy".

"We are a free nation and our place in the modern world will be defined only by how successful and strong we are".

It was Mr Putin's second state of the nation address since being re-elected by a landslide in 2004.

The real anti-Christ would be a beloved world leader no one assumes is the anti-Christ - that can be anything from the Pope to the U.S. President.

We are told that this 'man' will deceive all but the elect.

Now Christ said I have foretold you all things, that would mean that we should already know who the instead of jesus is. Christ was even tempted by the anti-christ, and what was offered Christ if he would bend His knee????

Putin's position is indistinguishable from that of the American Left. This speech could have been given by Jimmy Carter.

The USSR and retrospective looks at its demise are very strange. We must remember that it's been 14 years since the whole enterprise collapsed. For young people (late 20s and early 30s) this era is tied to the nostalgia of their childhood. Also, the crimes of the regime are forgotten and not emphasized. The soviets never got the nazi treatment. And to the extent that they do, excesses are blamed on Stalin or other individuals.

In Russia, in particular, the nostalgia is strong because of national pride. Russia's early history was that of an Asian hick backwater. With Peter the Great, they became a European power, albeit a minor one. With Catherine, they became prominent and rose to be a major force in the never-ending series of European wars. But they lost quite a few of them.

Then, after World War II, they were a superpower -- feared and hated. The nostalgia leads to a "but at least" problem. "Well, we had to wait in line for rotten bread, but at least we didn't have to worry about paying for the doctor." The real problems that Russia suffers from now are compared against a sanitized version of the past. But the truth is, it's really more about national pride. They don't have it now, and they wish they did.

When Russia will start necessary reforms, unemployment rate will rise and those immigrants will have problems to get a job and place to live. We also have in Poland plan to settle Poles especially from Kazakhstan but because of above mentioned problems only few of them decided to go back.

You know that Russian economy depends mostly of oil and gas (huge taxes for export), Putin isn’t so stupid to do it. For which cash he would pay all these social rents and privileges?

Anyway soon we will be ready even for such Putin’s suicide if we make deal with our FRIENDS from Ukraine, Caucasus and USA.

Btw Why are you bother so much about this?

I don't think he'd fit:
Flat 13% tax
Killed sales tax
24% corporate tax
abortions after 12 weeks banned
Christian education in schools and the military
Cut the size of government
Private property reform
Pro-Business policies
Nope, don't think that jives to well.

Russia's early history was that of an Asian hick backwater.

Actually, Kieven Russ and the surviving principalities of Novograd, Moscovwy, Pskov and Vladimer (after the state was dismembered by the Mongols, Poles, Lithuanians, Teutonics and Swedes) were all very much in Europe. Only with Novograd's colonies into Siberia, which became Moscowy's after Novograd was conquered, did the Russ venture into Asia.

As for a backwater, hardly. Up until the Mongol invasions, they were one of the most powerful states in Europe, while England, France, Spain, Germany and Italy were hundreds of small baronies fighting for power.

Actually, they were already a European power before Peter, who made them into a major power with his defeat of the Swedes and Poles and Turks. Catherin even conquered Berlin before her death and her idjit son (who hated her) Peter III gave it all back to Fredrick (at that time) the Not-So-Great.

W has looked into this man's eyes and seen a good soul (or something like that). I have not looked into his eyes but somehow he gives me the creeps. I suppose his KGB background gives me pause. Force in service to tyrrany did not seem to bother his soul.

I guess you missed the oil project in the Baltic Sea, straight to Germany or the fact that the gas is being tide into the Northern Europe route through Norway. The only ones who were to stupid were those who pissed off the people who provided the gas for tariffs. Whoops. Ukraine is also being bypassed by the new pipe line being laid down in Bulgaria and Greece.

our FRIENDS from Ukraine, Caucasus and USA

Oh, you mean the great gas and oil fields of Ukraine? Hahaha, or do a geography study and figure out how the gas and oil will get to you, of all people, from the Caucus. Oh and if you think America is going to flip your bill or send you gas, hint we're out ourselves and gas prices have risen about 20% each of the past two years here, then you're hitting the crack pipe.

Why do I bother? Because, I find it interesting, I have friends there, my wife is Russian and I'm sick and tired of the biased/racist/nut job BS that certain individuals put out about the Russians on a daily basis.

There is only one named that has the ultimate death sentence, that being Satan the devil, the serpent, the dragon, the destroyer, death, the instead of christ.

From the beginning through Revelation we are told over and over again the role, the type, the method of operation that will be used by the instead of christ and we are not talking about a flesh man.

Now if you have waited until Revelation to find out who it is named to be the play actor of Christ then you my friend are waiting for the thunder when the action has already passed.

You should not discuss energetic things if you simply don’t understand. All you can do is ask me what I mean because you don’t understand. Then maybe I will explain you few things.

I guess you missed the oil project in the Baltic Sea, straight to Germany or the fact that the gas is being tide into the Northern Europe route through Norway.

GAS project not oil, maybe for you it is not important difference but believe me crucial. You know that oil usually is transported by the sea via tankers! Hehe

The only ones who were to stupid were those who pissed off the people who provided the gas for tariffs. Whoops. Ukraine is also being bypassed by the new pipe line being laid down in Bulgaria and Greece.

This oil never flew via Ukraine, but via Turkish straights! Again tankers!

Do you ever heard about Caspian oil and gas, when US firm owning natural resources?

Somewhere in one of his many dacha's, Putin has a shrine to Stalin

Nonsense! Can you imagine Stalin ever introducing a Christian curriculum in the schools. My wife was a child psychologist and a graduate of a lycentium (sp?), and Putin had her develop a Bible program for the schools, which he signed into law. He also had similar programs developed for the trade schools and military. This makes those who try to brand him as favoring Stalin appear STUPID.
