My brother and sister in law's son drowned in 1998... (both were in the Army at the time, living at Ft. Hood Texas) he got into the back yard when she had left the room for just a moment and someone that was staying with them was supposed to be paying attention.

He drowned in the above ground pool, 2 years old.

This stuff does happen...

I just had a bad feeling about this one. So sad. My prayers go out to those kids and their loved ones.

Missing Georgia Toddlers Found Dead

WARRENTON, GA (AP) -- Police say the bodies of a missing two-year-old girl and her three-year-old brother have been found not far from their east Georgia home. Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesman John Bankhead says Nicole and Jonah Payne -- missing since Saturday -- were found in a sanitation pond about a mile and a half from their lakeside house in rural Warren County.

Bankhead says that "at this time" there is no indication of foul play. He says authorities are trying to determine whether the children might have wandered off and fallen into the pond. Bankhead says there was a green algae growing on the surface of the pond, so the children could not be seen inititally.

Earlier today, Bankhead said the search had reached "a critical stage" and the likelihood of finding Nicole and Jonah safe was decreasing. The two were were last seen Saturday at their lakeside house in rural Warren County, about 100 miles east of Atlanta.

Police said their mother found the front door open and the children gone from the home, which is about 100 miles east of Atlanta.

The search included 75 to 100 law enforcement officers combing through the woods and divers. The search over the weekend included volunteers from the community.

"Not defending her, I dont know the facts, but as a parent I can assure you, children can vanish in sseconds even when you are as paranoid as I was when they were young. "

I agree with you. I think it's wise that folks not jump to conclusions in situations like this. Even parents who are considered extremely protective of their children have bad things happen to them.

Yes, mothers don't close the bathroom door - I still have a problem with that, and all i have to worry about these days is spoiled rotten cats.

Can't imagine what is finally going to be reported as the cause of this tragedy. I hate to think that it might be the obvious - too soon to jump to conclusions.

Most of us moms even SHOWERED with shower curtain somewhat open - made for a lot of wet bathroom floors but at least we knew where our kids were.

If this was a sanitation or sewage pond, it is my understanding that it has to have a 6 foot fence around it by law.

Ping for clarification.

Several years ago my husband (a police officer) pulled a drowned toddler out of a pool - for the second time. He had responded to the house months earlier and pulled the little boy out alive. This little boy died from neglect.

There are irresponsible parents out there even in million dollar home.

A mile and a half! that's a pretty long way for tiny babies to walk. Something stinks.

It happens all the time. It happened to my pediatrician, of all people, back in the '80s. His wife was at home with the 2 yr old, turned her back for a second, and he punched out the screen and fell in the hot tub.

But shoot, no! Let's hang the parents before we even know the facts!

Sheesh. Some of you people.

That's pretty far away for 2 toddlers to get.

I do remember getting used to not close (much less lock) the bathroom door if I was home alone with any of my toddlers.

I wonder if it took you as long as it did me to "retrain" myself to remember to close the door:)
