On Judicial Nominees: How Long Will the Senate Tolerate the Intolerable?
Richmond Times Dispatch ^ | April 28, 2005 | ROSS MACKENZIE

Posted on 04/28/2005 8:27:59 AM PDT by conservativecorner

What are some truths about the filibuster, blameworthiness, and the nuclear option?

Right now, in the blandest terms, the situation in the Senate seems to be this: Democrats have stymied votes on about a dozen Bush nominees to the ap- pellate courts -- stymied votes on some of those nominees for years, some indeed for so much of the President's first term that they withdrew their names from consideration.

With the Republicans having re-elected President Bush and gained seats in both houses of Congress last November, the President has resubmitted the names of many of the stalled nominees. The Democrats threaten to filibuster them. Tired of the delays, the Republicans are threatening to change the Senate rule on filibusters so that only 51 votes (a majority) would be required to break a filibuster on judicial nominees, as opposed to the current 60-vote requirement.

Democrats answer that in the face of such a change in the filibuster rule, they will shut down the Senate to the conduct of any business.

Republicans have lost control. The wimps just don't get it. This is going to be four years of a total ineffective party in government. What a waste of a vote, but at least neither party will be able to complete anything. The little piece meal crap that does get passed will put America in further jeopardy. And talk about pork, that's about all that will pass. Get ready for the next increase in taxes and the market will dip. Most Americans have lost faith in both parties.

"they [Democrats] will shut down the Senate to the conduct of any business."

Good. Then we'll see if they get skewered by the MSM like the Republicans did when they blocked Clinton's budget and shut down the government. I know it won't happen but we must never let the MSM think its double standard is going unnoticed.

Make the Democrats speak 'til they're weak -- 'til they drop

Do it ... and remind Americans daily that while these career politicians act like children the borders remain open, a five-year old energy bill languishes, and social security reform is demagogued rather than addressed.

We are finally seeing just how this corrupt "Two-Party Cartel" has operated & only when we did what we needed to get a conservative agenda passed you now see that they are frauds. Their money people (elites/trans nationalists) who oppose conservatism are pushing opposite. The pubbie pols now either go with them & hope that they are not voted out or stick with their constituents & lose the money tree. When Hillary is elected next time watch how fast the liberals can pass their agenda. The Hildabeast can be beaten but watch what these elites push as the pubbie front runner - I assure you it will be a dunce. If not a 3rd party will derail the pubbies.

Reminds me of a female captain I once knew on active duty that whined and cried about how she couldn't get a Master Sergeant that worked for her to do his job. I told her she ought to relieve him. She said she couldn't do that, it was too drastic. I then told her that if she intended to stay in the military she needed to stop screwing around and grow a set of balls.

LOL - did she?

The guest host on the Laura Ingraham show this morning interviewed Senator Bill Frist. He made the point that Republicans elected their Senators to go to Washington and do their jobs. He said we were going past frustration and into anger now. One question he asked was "When are you going to force the Democrats to vote on these candidates?" Senator Frist wouldn't give an answer. He said he wanted to exhaust all his other options first, said he was involved in daily discussions with the Democrats, and then he changed the subject.

What a wimpy answer. I want to know two things:

1. I want to see your plan, Senator, and I want to see how many goals you have completed so far and what is left to do before you declare that it's time to force a vote?

2. I want a timetable. What is the due date for completion of your plan and when do you anticipate that the vote will be forced?

From what Senator Frist was saying, it sounds like the Democrats will put some small change into the negotiation that they know the Republicans will reject, and then when they get rejected they go back and think of something else to try two weeks later. If this continues, nothing will ever be done and the candidates will never be approved.

Senator Frist did say that he was holding firm on the requirement that every candidate should get an up or down vote, with no filibuster. So when the end comes, that will be the Republican goal. That is, IF the end comes...

This government term is leaving permanent scars on America with ‘blatant’ government, industry & political money in more control than ever before.
‘IE’ Bush’s - New Freedom Commission - has already started government take-over of our kids. D.C. is driving the system into all 50 states
under corporate & foundations fund state take-over of Child Care.
TMAP & Mandatory mental screening for drug treatments was exposed with the Medicare scandal & is ongoing, infiltrating most systems of our nation.
FDA's war of oppression against nutritional supplements, Bottom-line, the nutrients on WHO’s list are found in whole foods we grow in our own gardens.
Have we lost faith in the parties ‘or’ politicians ethics & their respect for society & rights.
Hopefully this loss of faith & rights will bring America to stand up. Everyone needs to be heard.
