SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - The U.S. government agreed to pay $87,500 to settle a lawsuit brought by a Kenyan refugee who was denied political asylum in the United States.

The Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights, which handled the woman's case, said it it is the first time an arriving refugee has received a settlement in a lawsuit accusing the government of negligence.

Rosebell Munyua, 35, claimed the government was negligent because it sent her back to Kenya, even though she said she told immigration officials she would be killed.

The U.S. Attorney's Office said the settlement, filed Wednesday in federal court in San Francisco, was not an admission of wrongdoing, but declined to comment further.

So now it's okay to sue the US of A if you've been denied asylum, only to come back, then sue the USA and proceed to live here. Wow, this is definitely setting a precedent..and she gets over 87K to boot. Now that's going to look good to a lot of people, isn't it....I wish I had never seen this story.

"When a woman and child arrive on your doorstep begging for help, you don't slam the door shut, and tell them to go somewhere else," Philip Hwang said.

You do if she lies, misrepresents herself, and tries to con immigration authorities and the court. Hello?

This woman provided the best evidence that she was lying, and she gets paid for it?
Isn't that adding insult to injury?
Obviously, she survived her return to Kenya long enough to sue us.

The government also said Munyua lied to embassy officials in Kenya when she said she did not have family members in the United States.

So she lied to get a visa in Kenya, lied to the immigration authorities in San Francisco, who followed proper protocol by sending her back, lied about the threat to her life, was readmitted to the United States probably based on another lie and gets to collect $87 thou because immigration officials actually did their duty (for a change) in not granting admission to someone with false claims?

Wow!! What a scam! How do I get my $87 thou?

Just when you thought that attorneys could not debase themselves any lower, the sharks outdid themselves.

Outrageous.

On what grounds? She obviously wasn't killed. She lied. Why are we paying her?

Wow, I see a new angle here. I need at least a half mil from Uncle Sugar because the IRS denied my request to not pay my taxes and I might end up with less money as a result.

We truly have a government run, managed and operated by morons and idiots.

Well, what does one expect from any court in San Fiasco? I'd be surprised if the Government does not appeal this.
