Homolka 'will never' come home: father

Karla Homolka has yet to reveal her plans but the convicted sex killer will never return to her hometown of St. Catharines, the scene of her horrifying crimes, her father said yesterday.
Residents have been on tenterhooks about the possibility that their most infamous neighbour could show up again in the Niagara Peninsula city after her release from prison in July. St. Catharines was scarred by the torture and death of two local teenaged girls at the hands of Homolka and her husband, Paul Bernardo.
Karel Homolka, the father, said he and his wife, Dorothy, have been in regular contact with their daughter, but he does not expect to see her at his front door. "No, she'll never come to St. Catharines. I don't know where she'll go, but not St. Catharines," Mr. Homolka said in an interview.
"What the hell would she need to do here, anyway? It would just start more controversy."
Homolka is scheduled to be released on July 5, the last day of the 12-year sentence she was given after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the killings of Kristen French, 15, and Leslie Mahaffy, 14.
The sentence was part of a plea bargain that required her to testify against Bernardo.
It also took into account the death of her sister, Tammy, who choked to death after the couple knocked her out with tranquilizer and Bernardo raped her.
Two Niagara Regional Police detectives met with the woman at Joliette Institution near Montreal recently, but the force has not revealed yet what she said about her intentions after getting out.
Mr. Homolka said Karla telephones her parents about once a week from Joliette. He said he does not know whether she will settle in Quebec after her release.
He would not comment on whether she is looking forward to her impending freedom, but suggested she is not afraid of what awaits her. "Why be fearful?" the father asked.
His suggestion that Homolka will not return to St. Catharines was welcomed by some residents yesterday.
"That would be great news," said a neighbour on the Homolkas' street, who asked not to be named. "I have no interest of seeing her whatsoever. I don't think she should be let out at all. I think she's guilty and should be put away forever."
But the neighbour said there are no hard feelings toward the parents, who have suffered greatly themselves, calling them "nice people" and quiet.
Most of St. Catharines would be happy if Homolka never came back, said Mayor Tim Rigby.
"I had to live with this thing ever since it started and frankly ... I wouldn't want to see her here," he said in an interview. "It's tough enough even for her parents living here and that would make it even worse."
Niagara Regional Police have said also that they would have no choice but to provide protection to Homolka if she did return and faced threats from angry residents.
Meanwhile, Crown prosecutors in Ontario and Quebec are hammering together a request for an order under the Criminal Code that would allow authorities to impose some restrictions on Homolka's movements after she is released.
The application is expected to be heard by a judge in Joliette in June.
Because her sentence is finished, she will not be on parole or probation when she leaves and the corrections system will have no power to limit her activities.

Not that the laws are followed but will she have to register wherever she goes as a sex offender?
This cretin and her husband dont belong in public.

I don't know that I could forgive one of my children if they did the things she did.
Should be hung, not let loose.
I had read that she met a girlfriend in the prison who is already out and that the two of them were planning to shack up. I don't remember the girl's name, but I remember it was a story about the parties they were having in prison before Homolka was transferred.
I sure couldn't forgive any family member for something like this.
It wasn't just Paul Bernardo who raped Tammy Homolka. It was her own sister as well.
I'm a parent, and I can't imagine having a weekly phone conversation with a child who raped and killed another child of mine.
These two should have been erased.
I have seen this story on crime shows and it always seemed obvious to me that these two were a perfect psychotic/sadist/rapist/murderer match. She raped and helped him kill her own sister, if I recall.
Talk about a travesty of justice.
On October 17 1987 Homolka, then 17 met Bernardo who was 23, at a hotel restaurant. Their relationship quickly became sexual in nature. They would maintain a relationship until 1994 when Homolka divorced Bernardo and began testifying against him. At the time of their meeting, Bernardo had already raped several girls in Scarborough, a Toronto suburb, but he had not been found out.
On December 23 1990, Homolka stole the animal anesthetic, Halothane, from the veterinary clinic where she worked. Together she and Bernardo administered it to her fifteen-year-old sister Tammy Lyn Homolka along with a mixture of alcohol and halcion. They raped Tammy in the basement of the Homolka family's home while she was unconcious. The official cause of death was attributed to the girl having choked to death on her own vomit. Tammy's death was, at the time, ruled an accident.
After getting engaged to Bernardo, Karla Homolka and her fiancé rented a bungalow in the quiet suburb of Port Dalhousie. On June 15, 1991 Paul Bernardo, while stealing license plates to aid in his Cigarette Smuggling scheme ran into Leslie Erin Mahaffy who had been locked out of her home. The two spoke for some time and went back to Paul's car for a cigarette. At that point 14-year old Leslie Mahaffy was abducted.
Paul Bernardo brought her to their home where they held the girl hostage for several days, sexually assaulting her repeatedly. This, they recorded on video tape including one scene where Homolka pretties herself for the camera before raping the girl. Eventually, they killed Mahaffy, and Paul Bernardo cut up her body with a circular saw.
On June 29, a couple canoeing on a lake at the edge of the city of St. Catharines found parts of Mahaffy's body in shallow water, encased in cement. On the same day that the girl's body was found, Karla Homolka was married in a lavish ceremony, resplendent in an all-white wedding dress and riding with her husband in a horse-drawn carriage at Niagara-on-the-Lake.
On April 16, 1992, Paul and Karla drove into a church parking lot. Karla stepped out of the car with a map pretending to be lost and asking for help from 15-year-old Kristen Dawn French. Paul approached from behind and used a knife to force Kristen Dawn French into the car. A piece of the map, one of Kristen's shoes and some of Kristen'ss hair were all later found at the crime scene. Paul Bernardo forced the girl into the backseat floor of the car at knifepoint.
They brought French to their home where for several days they sexually assaulted, abused, tortured and degraded her. They killed her just before going to Easter Sunday dinner at Homolkas parents' home. On April 30, the body of Kristen French was found in a ditch in the city of Burlington, Ontario.
Why are these two pieces of excrement still breathing air intended for God's creatures?
The problem is that she was able to convince the jury that she was a 'victim' and her husband had 'forced' her into all the murders. I don't recall but did her husband get life in prison?
What;s worse is that:
(1) After her plea deal, the videotapes of the rapes were discovered - proving that she had been a willing and enthusiastic participant in the crimes.
(2) The police said that their hands were tied and that they couldn't charge her with further crimes because they had agreed to the plea deal.
(3) This was a lie, because according to the terms of her deal it was breakable if she lied or otherwise withheld evidence, yet the tapes show that she (a) lied about her level of participation, (b) was well aware of the tapes' existence because she is shown posing and mugging for the camera, (c) withheld evidence of other crimes they had committed which are referred to in the tape.
(4) Therefore, the Canadian police could have broken the plea deal, gotten a clear conviction with the videotaped evidence and the physical evidence they gathered from the Homolka home and Karla Homolka would be in prison until she dies.
But tehy refrained due to political correctness.
It also turns out that they raped and murdered a teenage girl in Hawaii while they were on their honeymoon, but the Canadian government won't release the evidence or allow her to be extradited.
If the Canadian government acted responsibly, Homolka would be on her way to a Hawaiian jail to serve a life sentwence after her Canadian sentence ends.
Perhaps the Liberals could elevate their moral tone by recruiting darling Karla as a star candidate.
IIRC, the prosecution screwed the pooch royally when it came to the case against Paul Bernardo. They needed Karla's testimony to put him away, so they cut her a sweetheart deal.
Read post 13. If the Canadian cops had done their work more thoroughly, they would have had all the evidence they needed.
And they could have pulled her plea deal at a moment's notice, since she did not honor it.
What's worse, is that her boyfriend/husband raped her sister and she helped and taped it. He "needed virgins" to be satisfied. She died after choking on vomit.
IIRC her parents were in the house at the time!
Karla and her husband Paul
From the website Court TV's Crime Library Stephen Williams in his book Invisible Darkness describes Karla's idea: "She had really thought this thing with Tammy through. After all, she did not want to kill her own sister; she just wanted to knock her out and give her to Paul for Christmas. They sedated animals before they put them to sleep for surgery, so it should be all right to do it to her sister. There was some risk without the proper equipment -- she would have to put the halothane on a cloth and hold it over Tammy's face -- but she would make sure Tammy had plenty of air and check her breathing regularly." A truly organized rape, as only a thoughtful sister could plan. Maybe even the most thought out and organized rape ever.
Tammy Homolka December 23, 1990, was the big day -- Tammy's deflowering. Paul used his new video camcorder to take videos of Mr. and Mrs. Homolka, their daughters, Karla, Tammy and Lori and the Christmas decorations in the house.
Paul plied Tammy with drinks, laced with the sedative Halcion. The effects of the drugs and alcohol were swift and Tammy was out cold on the couch in no time. When the other members of the household went up to bed, Karla and Paul started to work on Tammy. Paul held the camera on Tammy while he raped her, leaving Karla to keep the halothane-laden rag over her sister's face. Then he ordered Karla to make sexual advances to her sleeping sister.
Suddenly Tammy threw up. Karla wished her sister hadn't eaten before this event, but Karla knew what to do. She did what they did in the veterinary clinic. She held her sister upside down to try to clear her throat.
Only problem was that Tammy choked to death. Their amateur attempts to revive her failed so they dressed her, hid their drugs and camera and called an ambulance. The first that Tammy and Karla's parents knew of this tragedy was when they heard the ambulance pull up to the house. Everybody was led to believe that Tammy had died from accidentally choking on her vomit.
With Tammy no good to him anymore, Paul needed a replacement.
I'm familiar with the case. What's worse is, she pretended to be her dead sister (that she and her husband killed while he raped her) while having sex with him.
