Baptist congreations generally elect their pastors, BTW, through member votes. Maybe there's a different kind of politicking going on in this story.
i'm sure it's safe to say the democRATS didn't have the "homosexuality and abortion are sins" sermons on their 'favorites' list.

He did not say make them Church members and leaders in the church.There is a difference between associating with sinners and ministering to them verses offering them fellowship in the congregation of believers.
There is something wrong with this story. Bush was elected back in November, now it's may. He can't run again. But the story says the preacher is (present tense) telling his congregation they have to repent and agree to vote for Bush.
More likely (if there is any truth to this story) he preached about some moral issue for which the democrat party seems to have a firm platform plank against, and when challenged spoke out about it.
The pastor said it wasn't political, and that people were upset because he named names. Sounds like a moral disagreement, not a political one.

Agreed - Separation of church and politics.
I was checking out the local Episcopal church until successive sermons had political barbs in them, I'm sure the liberals there appreciated them. No more for me.
Been going the the Roman Catholic church recently and have found other REAL believers. I'm of the opinion that our society could use a very large dose moral instruction, and I think these are the guys to do it!
You make a very good point. If the story is accurate, the preacher is wrong and needs to be relieved.
Whether he is right or wrong is not for the govt. to decide. You and I could think or know that he is wrong, but we have no authority over what he does in his church in respect to this. If he is under the authority of a denomination they can make that judgement, or the congregation of that church can vote with their feet.

more information about the specifics of this situation would be nice. There's a big difference between saying that one cannot support a particular candidate or party to be a member of a church and saying that one has to support a specific candidate. The former is fine and may even be necessary for a pastor to do. The latter is crossing the line IMO.

If you watch the video that is what they start out saying then throw in the part about Bush.Unfortunately many SBC churches are still have a membership dominated by the "greatest Generation".They are the people that strayed from teaching "Lordship" and were more concerned with the "Priesthood of the Believer" than taking strong Biblical stands against anything other than alcohol.This resulted in the 60"s children of the SBC being the most fertile hunting ground for Mormans and new age beliefs.
I suspect a strong Bible preaching pastor is butting heads with 60 year old Deacons that think it is their church and the Preacher works for them.
And besides, from some of the posts on this site, its obvious many conservatives don't have a clue who Jesus is either.

That's like excluding unsaved people from church.
My thoughts, too. The Press is exceedingly lazy in fact-checking in these kinds of stories. The organization Americans United for Separation of Church and State just issued a report saying that the Air Force Academy is heavily biased against non-evangelicals. When you get to the details of the report, they include as "evidence" things like the fact that the Academy plays its football games on Saturday, which is the Jewish Sabbath, so of course, that's showing bias against Jews.
Not without true repentance there isn't....for 'Dems' or anyone else who hasn't.
Good discernment. The Purpose Driven Life is as substantial and nourishing as cotton candy.
