Sad to say, even a cursory review of this record reveals the fact that the Republican Party in Washington, D.C., has become little more than a carbon copy of the Democratic Party.

Republicans have their voter base perfectly triangulated. As long as they toe the line on God, Guns, and Gays, they can do whatever the hell they want without fear of losing votes.

I get the impression that Republicans view conservatives like the dims view minorties; "Who else are they going to vote for". They can throw out some red meat to the faithful every now and then, but if my impression is correct they have made a fatal calculation.

In my local republican organization people that have, for decades, given time and money to the party are disgusted to the point where they say they'll just sit out the next election(s) both working for the party and voting until the Republican's get the message. The figure that other than the WOT things couldn't be much different, especially with a divided congress.

The republican presidential contenders will all lurch right because that's where the base is. What will be telling is how far the nominee then moves to the mushy middle.

There is one condition that would negate this and that's if Hilliary runs. In that case the faithful would hang in, but not because of anything the Republicans are doing.

My two cents anyways.

I agree with you - if the Republicans don't get their act together and stop ignoring their base things could become very difficult for them.

So, are you saying we've boxed ourselves in? We can't go extreme right because no one would take us seriously and obviously, ethics and convictions disallow any acquiescing to the left? Hmmmm...????

As a life-time Republican (and member of the local committee), I am sick that the elephants do little different than the jackasses. They elephants make big promises but then morph into donkeys once elected.

1. No Child Left Behind just gives more boost to the DOE...eliminate the DOE and get the Feds out of local schools.
2. Open borders and totally free trade just help the Mexicos and Chinas of the world while doing nothing for citizens.
3. Funding for Planned Parenthood, NPR and any other organization (even Conservative ones) should be cut off.
4. Why are we still in the UN?

Yet, the elephants do nothing. To quote a famous movie line:

"I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore."

And that includes a run by Hitlery. The elephants need to show that they have balls of the same size.

You can have spineless wimp chaffee, as for Romney, he ain't half bad as he has to deal with an over 2/3rd's majority democrat and socially liberal taxachusetts legislature as Governor.

There's no much "extreme" about the right I'm talking about. Republicans keep forgetting that they win elections when they are conservatives but they're trying (I guess) to lock up the mushy middle and the hispanic vote.

All that and passing and signing CRF saying parts of it were unconstitutional but that the courts would fix it.

Along with NPR increasing funding for the NEA.

A total failure to exercise the checks and balances that the founders gave them to keep the judiciary in balance with the other two branches. Nothing but hot air.

What's most galling to be is that they take an oath to uphold the constitution, so help them God yet they can pass/sign legislation that they publically state is unconstitutional.

There's more than gonads missing, frankly they're reminding me of X-42 more and more every day.

After 40 years of giving them time, money and bleeding in the trenches if they can't fight for the Constitution I can't/won't fight for them.
