Planned Parenthood launches campaign against Pope Benedict XVI

New York, May. 03, 2005 (CNA) - Planed Parenthood has launched a campaign to motivate all of its members and supporters, nominal Catholics and non-Catholics, to send letters to the editor, requesting that Pope Benedict XVI reconsider his “backward views” and change his opinion on sexual morality.

Pope Benedict XVI must be encouraged to “reconsider his dangerously outdated stances on birth control, abortion and sexuality in order to help move the Catholic Church into the 21st century,” reads a memo issued by campaign manager Eve Fox.

“The new Pope's positions on these crucial issues pose a terrible danger to the health of millions of women and girls around the world and undermines efforts to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS,” Fox wrote.

The campaign manager justified this action, saying that the “the Church has tremendous influence over many governments, especially in Latin America, and plays a powerful role in shaping social and political norms around the world.”

Calling him “even more conservative” than Pope John Paul II, Fox told her supporters that Pope Benedict XVI is “against all forms of contraception and opposes the use of condoms to prevent HIV/AIDS.”

Prior to being elected Pope, Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger “told Catholics in the U.S. it would be a sin to vote for pro-choice candidates like John Kerry, and urged bishops to deny Kerry Communion. He has also led the Catholic Church's campaign against same-sex marriage and other rights for same-sex couples, including the right to adopt children,” wrote Fox

Simple question ~ Why?

This is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen on this planet of ours. Urging non-Catholics to write? For what? Makes no sense at all.

Of course if the Church would not allow sinful behaviour and bend for Henry VIII or Philip of France what do these kooks expect to gain?

Very few United Ways give to Planned Parenthoods. Each United Way in each county or geographical area is independent and autonomous. The state, federal and other federated campaigns include Planned Parenthood BUT these campaigns are NOT United Way. United Way and their agencies are just one choice. Again, 99% DO NOT fund planned parenthood and also about 98% still support the boyscouts through their ordeal. Freepmail me if you want more info. I sense a flame war coming on and I'm sick of them! Would rather do a personal resonse.

I have a news flash for Ms. Fox, the very things she is promoting is what is ruining women's lives. I spent my career working in women's health care, and I never heard of an unintended pregnancy or abortion with abstinence, nor did I ever hear of it causing any STDs.

There are bad apples within the church. For example, Sister Helen Prejean had to change

Excuse me for being too simplistic.

But this 'sister', kowtowed to the altar of PC-ness, instead of the altar of the Lord. She decided she was in the 'pick-n-choose line', instead of 'the infallible Word of God line'.

An early Christian text called the Didache (or Teaching of the Twelve Apostles), which apparently dates from the first half of the second century, explicitly condemns abortion and infanticide (along with murder, adultery, corruption of children, fornication, etc.).

Even the pagan Roman poet Ovid, whose sexual ethics were far removed from the Judaeo-Christian norms, abhorred abortion.

I doubled my donation to the United Way this year.

$0.00 * 2 = $0.00

Next year I'm going to more generous and triple it.

ROFL!! Ok, the guy answers to GOD and he's going to be afraid of Planned Parenthood??

I have a suggestion for Planned Parenthood. Why don't they just come right out and say that their target is GOD, rather than the pope. They don't like His rules, they don't like His laws, they don't like His morality, and they want Him to change.

The only problem with that is, He's already stated His position on changing His policies. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

In Tennessee in 2000 (Planned Parenthood v. Sunquist) the ACLU and Planned Parenthood got judges to strike down any state law that restricted abortion. So now we (TN) have no Consent laws (i.e. woman being counseled on all her options), no 48 waiting period for those seeking an abortion and also we no longer require 2nd and 3rd trimester abortions to go to a hospital.

In other words Planned Parenthood doesn't want women to make logical, well-thought out, safe choices. They are not pro-woman or pro-choice, they are pro-abortion.

And I enjoy calling them that - because they hate it - which then leads me to ask them if abortion is so wonderful, why don't you want to be considerd pro-abortion. (little consolation as they make money off of killing unborn children).

Thelma Harper (the "Mama" of TV's "Mama's Family") once said, "Oh, Yeah! I've heard it! 'Get with it! This is the 40's, this is the 50's, this is the 60's' --Every time somebody don't know what they're talking about they tell you the date!"

It struck me funny on the show and I have found it to be true.

The Left attacks the Catholic Church because it is part of the anti-terrorist, anti-communist, conservative world.

I support the Catholic Church, in part, because I am against those forces of the Left.

Having said that, I do feel that some change might be considered by the Church. Particularly, they might consider changing their opposition to birth control. I don't think there are many American Catholics who believe in that position, and probably not that many around the world.

It seems far fetched. Birth control is wrong because it prevents potential life, and is thus sort of like murder, and furthermore "unnatural"?

I think the Catholic Church could drop this and strengthen itself. Maybe especailly in Africa, where it seems like brith control would be especially important, with so much poverty.

Since they are writing religious leaders, how about a letter to radical Iraqi Shiite Muslim Cleric, Muqtada al-Sadr.

"Dear Al,

Please ask your militiamen to suspend deadly clashes with U.S. and other foreign troops. They act at your comman, maybe you now can ask them to stop. Also, at Friday prayers, could you tone down the "Death to America" bits?"
