LEESBURG, Fla. A 94-year-old wheelchair-bound man was badly beaten inside his garage and died at the hospital later in the day, police said.
Police believe Irwin R. Null went into his garage Friday morning to meet a man who was interested in buying his van. Null was selling the vehicle because he can no longer drive.
Null's 91-year-old wife heard him moaning a while later, but she could not get inside the garage because his wheelchair was blocking the door.
She called 911 and police broke down a side door. Officers found the retired truck driver and World War II veteran lying on the floor with a head wound pleading for help.
Police Capt. David L. Marden said nothing appeared to have been stolen from the home or victim.
Marden said Saturday that police were creating a sketch of the man Null was meeting on Friday and would like to talk to him. The man has not yet been identified, and is not being called a suspect.
What is wrong with Floriduh?
At the very least Florida has a death penalty. How anyone could do this I'll never understand.
Too many non-natives living here.
How could someone be opposed to the death penalty when they see a situation like this?
So pathetic and awful.
So sorry he had to suffer.
Not to mention his wife, at her age, to have to deal with this horror.
I hope they find this coward and string him up.
They need to find this creep! Dang, this really pisses me off big time. What a ****** coward to beat up an elderly man in a wheelchair.
very sad. not so sure if selling a car on your own is such a good idea anymore...unless you've got your gun ready.
Death penalty.
We're getting all the nutcase stories out of Florida because Jeb Bush is governor. The lib media are trying to stop him from running for President--as if he was going to anyway.
The Japanese pre-1890 had a way of dealing with people like this. The would strap them down, then have the young Samurai practice their swordmanship on the felon. If the sword cut too deep too soon then the young Samurai was back doing the laundry.
It was the death of a 1000 cuts.
Interesting! I had heard the term, but never knew where it originated.
Just prey on the people who can't fight back!
Would phone records show incoming calls? The would-be buyer might have called ahead to see the van.

LEESBURG A 94-year-old Leesburg man is dead after being beaten in his garage.
Irwin N. Null was beaten Friday morning by an unknown assailant and taken to Leesburg Regional Medical Center after his 91-year-old wife called 911. From LRMC, he was flown to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he later died of blunt force trauma.
Leesburg police say Null had a van for sale parked in the front yard of his Lee Street home. A white male between 25 and 30 years old stopped by to look at the van Thursday afternoon and spoke to Null.
Between 7 and 8:30 a.m. Friday, someone again came by the house. This person and Null, who was in a wheelchair, went into the garage to talk. Police say they dont know if it was the same man who visited the house on Thursday afternoon.
Nulls 91-year-old wife, Jene, heard her husband crying for help around 9 a.m. but was unable to gain entry into the garage because Irwin Nulls wheelchair was blocking the door. She called 911 and police arrived, kicking the garage door in to get to Null. He was then taken to the hospital.
