The Republican promises of smaller, less intrusive government is getting harder to believe. Especially when a more plausible plot line is unfolding every day: that the GOP has put aside the ideals of Reagan and Goldwater in order to pursue a political strategy based on big spending.
For the latest, check out a report just released by the libertarian Cato Institute that tells a striking story about just how out-of-control spending has gotten under President Bush.
-Bush has presided over the largest increase in federal spending since Lyndon Johnson.
-Even excluding defense and homeland security spending, Bush is the biggest-spending President in 30 years.
-The federal budget grew from 18.5 percent of the Gross Domestic Product on President Bill Clinton's last day in office to 20.3 percent at the end of Bush's first term.
Add to that Bush's massive Medicare prescription-drug benefit, expected to cost $720 billion-plus over the next 10 years. (The money for that new entitlement, the first created by a president in a generation, will start flowing this year.)

imagine this, a Tancredo supporter bashing President Bush.
uhh ohh, imagine this one: The sun came up in the East today!!!
Unbelievable....
Wow, you read quick.
The sad thing is, the modern republican party and President Bush have pretty much abandoned the Contract with America that the Republicans used to dig themselves out of the political wilderness in the 90s.
:(
This doesn't even including the bloated, ridiculous farm subsidies:

Well then the article is false...
Let's forget that we're giving 200 million of taxpayer's dollars to the terrorists in southern Israel but we can't afford more border patrol to keep the terrorists out of the US...
Bush is making Tancredo look pretty good...
Not really. It is those that call themselves republicans that are doing it. namely, RINOS. The GOP has a conservative base still. It is up to the base to take it back, not just quit.
Quitting never got anyone anywhere....
LOL
the only thing that would make Tancredo look good is for a terrorist attack to come from someone who came into the country through Mexico. I swear that if I didnt know better, there are some on FR even that wish for this to happen.
As for the money going to the PA, I dont have a problem, so long as we say where the money is going to be spent....if they dont like that, then they can do without.
I didnt say that.
Immigration is probably the biggest problem I have with any of the President's policies, and even at that, if he emphasizes security first, then his guest worker program doesnt look that bad, assuming, again there is security in the process....
that said, there are tons of people in the process and the blame does not ever nor should it ever fall on one man.
I forget again, has bushed ever vetoed a spending bill?
Well, a lot of us DO have a problem with our money going to terrorists, and the person that authorized it...
You were talking about RHINOS and Grass Roots GOP...I should know better than to ask, but where do YOU put Bush and Tancredo in this scenario???
So you're ok with all that spending under Bush?
If they're projecting $720 billion now, expect to rise at least 5 fold, maybe even 10 fold.
When it's all said and done, this New GOP/Bush entitlment will cost trillions in MONEY WE DO NOT HAVE over the next few years, and beyond.
Thanks Bush for saddling us with so much debt!
Will you also support higher taxes to pay for the spending binge of the past 5 years?
Oh yeah, can hardly wait till the dims get control again. The borders will magically close, the deficit will dissappear, terrorism will only be a nuisance and the birds will start singing again. Can't wait! /s/
did Reagan?
I dont know, I dont particularly care either....
go ahead rant scream and rave, but just remember there won't ever be, realistically, a viable 3rd party that will ever get elected in any type of numbers to influence anything.
Matter of fact, the GOP is probably stronger than ever right now. Why is that? Because the Dems are rotting in the foundation.
instead of ranting and raving about how bad the GOP is, do something about it, get conservatives elected or shut the hell up. its all just petty bitching otherwise.
we wont necessarily need to increase taxes....
i know you wont so I am not going to respond to this lunacy. I guess the Bush bashers woke up finally today. Go ahead and be your normal selves, threads like these keep me coming back to FR....
LOL
didn't you know? Tancredo has ALL the answers!!! /sarcasm
no no wait, the Constitutionalists have all the answers!!!/ sarcasm
no no wait, that's right, NO ONE has all the answers.
