MIAMI (AP) - The family of a severely brain-damaged woman who died after her feeding tube was removed in March said Friday they still have not been told where her remains will be laid to rest.
Terri Schiavo's parents and siblings, who waged a lengthy court battle over her end-of-life wishes, said on Fox's "Hannity & Colmes" show that her husband is keeping her remains from them.
"They were supposed to tell us, and we still have not heard from ... Michael Schiavo where Terri's been laid," said Terri Schiavo's brother, Bobby Schindler. "Our family expected this. Michael has disobeyed court orders throughout the ordeal and continues to do so today."
Michael Schiavo is under court order to notify the Schindlers of his plans for a memorial service. He has had his wife cremated and has said her ashes would be buried at a family plot in Pennsylvania.
George Felos, Michael Schiavo's attorney, did not immediately return a call Friday night seeking comment.
Terri Schiavo, 41, died March 31 in a Pinellas Park hospice, 13 days after her feeding tube was removed by court order. She suffered brain damage in 1990 after a chemical imbalance caused her heart to stop.
She left no written instructions in the event she became disabled, and her husband said she never would have wanted to be kept alive in what court-appointed doctors called a persistent vegetative state with no hope of recovery.
The Schindlers, however, doubted she had any such end-of-life wishes. They maintained she would benefit from rehabilitation, despite most doctors saying her condition was irreversible.
Michael Schiavo should demonstrate his usual class and dignity by selling the ashes on eBay.
This maneuver is called "nyah nyah I'm in Pennsylvania."
This reinforces my belief that MS is a lousy, good for nothing control freak. This is all designed to cause the maximum hurt to the Schindlers for whatever reason he has, maybe because they cost him a small fortune in legal fees, from Terri's settlement.
Any decent person, even if they truly were carrying out a true wish for a loved one wanting to die, would at least hand the remains over to their family to grieve over.
That's it precisely. When this guy goes to meet his Maker, there's going to be hell to pay. I don't know a lot, but I know that much.
Saw Michael Schiavo's dissipated brother on Hannity & Colmes where he had a one-on-one pre-recorded interview with Colmes, and he says the Schindlers haven't been notified of the burial of the ashes, because Michael hasn't buried them yet. His voice dripped with hatred for the Schindlers; he couldn't say enough about how bad they are. He appeared to me to be slightly drunk or drugged (serious dry mouth problem). Real honest to goodness white trash.
The book by that LA detective was mentioned, too. MS's brother said they hadn't been contacted for the book and that the book would be full of lies.
Wonder why Michael has to send his brother out to do his dirty work?
Michael's been shying away from camera's for a while now, unless it is some program he can control, like Larry Kong, who will be sympathetic to him and his murder. Scott's been speaking for him since before Terri was killed.
I almost laughed at the "recorded" call he got from a supposed redneck saying on and on how they were going to die, just so Scott could accuse Texans of making the call.
I'm not a particularly religious person myself, but if there really is a hell, I'm sure there is a special corner reserved for them, right next to the furnace.
I completely agree- and I hope and pray that it happens soon.
I supported the Schindlers right up until the court-ordered death of the innocent Terri Schiavo was complete. But dang, they need to give this a rest. We lost. She's dead. Let it go.
Since she hasn't been buried yet, no court order has been "defied."
And as for Furhman's book, how on earth can it be fair if he never spoke to anyone in the Schiavo family or their friends?
I would like to see it a little sooner.
Uh oh. There you go again, using logic. You know how they hate that..... :-)
One has to wonder why on earth he has not laid her to rest? That is a reasonable question. How cruel of him not to lay her to rest and tell the parents. People should really ask themselves how they would feel if it was their son or daughter and they could not even go visit the remains. Regardless of where one came down on the Terri issue, you would think reasonable people could agree that keeping Terri's remains away from her family is cruel.
But then again.....
Would they agree to keep the time and place to themselves for the dignity of all involved?
The family has a right to know. Whatever they do with that info. is their business. Why has Michael not laid her to rest?
So you would endorse all the hangers on, the entourage and the media hounds making a show at a solemn event? I'm not excusing Michael. But I can only guess what the service would look like. And it wouldn't be Michaels fans.
That is fine, that is your opinion and I respect that, however, Terri's family is allowed to have anyone they want visit the remains with them.
I wonder why Michael has not laid her to rest yet? How cruel to keep the parents away from all that is left of their daughter.
Have a great day!
From another poster:
Mark Fuhrman will appear on Hannity & Colmes Thursday night (May 12) at 9 pm EST. His appearance hasn't been posted on Foxnews.com yet.
Fuhrman will discuss how he tried to contact Michael Schiavo for an interview but was turned down by his attorney, George Felos
His brother seemed a little muddled when Colmes asked him about it and I thought he said he didn't know anything about the book.
Right!
