California will save 10 billion a year if they cut out state service for illegals so bring it on, lets pick up the tab for document verification, it will be a good investment in the long run

You need to know that each of the 9/11 terrorists had legally obtained drivers licenses.

There are American citizens that could commit terrorist acts and the new ID laws will not deter them.

There are much better ways to combat terrorism other than creating huge databases administered by government bureaucrats.

This ID act is an old proposal that goes back way before terrorism was page one. The proponents of national ID have been trying to get this passed for decades and they are now using terrorism as an excuse.

State bureaucracies with no federal mandates; with government operating at the level closest to the governed. The money NEVER leaves the state. I think it would be more accountable. I could be wrong, but I'd like to try it.

The way we have it now is chaotic and unfair, with one-size-fits-all type programs, when each state is different with different priorities and different problems.

It's called federalism; devolving power to the governments closest to the people.

In other words, the cost of a future and worse attack will be astronomical if Bush and the gang don't take borders seriously, not to mention the lost privacy that would result.

State bureaucracies replacing federal bureaucracies ~ sure sounds like progress. I think you'd best rethink that one.

That is how "New Federalism" would start. Then individual states would start to compete for business by lowering regulation and taxation. If you leave the spending at the federal level, the only competition is over how much pork a politician can bring home.

I went thru hell getting my drivers license when we moved back to Pennsylvania from Virginia after 10 years.

In 1955 I took my drivers test in Pennsylvania, I had that same license number until 1994 when we move to Virginia. I then turned in my Pennsylvania license to Virginia and received a Virginia license. We moved back to Pennsylvania in 2005.

I went to PDOT with my Virginia drivers license, and applied for a Pennsylvania license. Then the 'fun' began.

My birth certificate had a different name, dah, I am married. You were divorced at one time, 1958, we need a copy of your marriage license and divorce papers. Do you have other identification, I produced a deed to property I have owned in Pennsylvania since 1975 and a paid tax bill. They could not accept that because the address had been changed due to 911, we live in the out back of Pennsylvania.

Do you have a voters registration card, Pennsylvania had stopped registration two days before because of elections.

At this point I am shaking mad. My husband was afraid I was going to end up in the hospital.

Finally had to go to my Representative. If my husband came in, showed proof of bills he has paid for the location we were living at and signed a form stating that I also lived there, they would give me a license.

The best part is that the license number is the same one that was on my original license back in 1956.

Now I understand why some people go 'Postal'.

I supported F100's ,"The Hun" ,with their NAV/COMM electronics. I was also radio operator (volunteer) on AC-119 gunships. We serviced transient F105's and F4's from time to time.

For about 3-4 months, I was assigned to the 39th ARRS (Air Rescue) squadron taking care of their "Crown" C130's NAV Radar & IFF.

Enforcing current immigration laws that are on the books should be paramount in a time of war wouldn't you agree? Deportation of ALL illegal aliens is an action that should be obvious to everyone. Employing these illegals is, IMHO, criminal in that they are basically slave labor. Yes, they volunteer to work for low wages. But, bottom line, it's all about money and greed of the employer..

Deport the illegals and close the borders.

Yes, I do know that resident foreign nationals are required to be issued SSN's. Yep, same with 2 year olds and the past when foreign nationals were not required to have them. I don't like furnishing "papers please" either but having said that we live in a different world today.

Reason I asked was a long time friend's father, CM Shook, flew F4's in Nam around that time. Col Shook retired full bird but was probably a lt col or major at that time. The 'Colonel' flew Thunderbolts in WWII, Mustangs and Sabers in Korea, then F4's in Nam plus just about everything else the USAF had to fly as far as a fighter. The Col flew those before-mentioned in combat. Also, he was commander of the first squadron of F111's out of Nellis (Nev) when the USAF was evaluating and training 'the jocks' just before he retired.

He is one individual that has imprinted his spirit and character upon me for all my life. You just might of gassed him up or patched him up once when jet around in Nam.

He use to talk a lot about the characters of fellow pilots and his various crews that kept his stuff flying.

The pilots get a lot of the glory, but those men and women performing the maintenance, day to day support operations, etc., and especially those putting their butts on the line with AARS to fish our guys out, there'll never be enough said about all of them or you either.

I hope all Americans will always show you the respect you and other vets have earned.

I was trying to imply cross checking SS #'s against info with the State Department and INS. Check the first 2 first, if something doesn't jive, then contact the third to check and/or alert. The State Department issues green cards with photos and numbers as well maintaining records of authorized to enter this country through Customs holding foreign passports and visas issued to immigrate. INS has duplicate information of the later.

Our government has the information and secured websites can be setup for that check for businesses that have applied and authorized to use that website as well as DMV's for all the states. It's done everyday between federal agencies, so the computer guru's can make it happen.

Not to diminsh the impact of 9/11, but...

We fought two world wars, and in the second, we faced enemies across both oceans that were infiltrating spies, saboteurs, and assasins into the U.S. We fought a Cold War against a foe with hydrogen bombs and doomsday bioweapons who was infiltrating some of those weapons into the U.S.

The towelheads did a little more than talk on 9/11. Look, I agree that a surveillance state is not a scenario I would subscribe to either.

Asking for identification is a procedure that is with us today. I use my credit card at Home Depot. The clerk at the register asks for ID. I provide it. Providing ID is reality.
