I don't post often, so I hope I did this okay. Very moving story, well worth the read.

Thanks. If you've never been a dog handler, you would not normally understand the bond. This story conveys that bond well.

Thank you for posting it.

It was very moving indeed.

How many such things happen, that we never find out.

It's good to get at least a few of these stories.

God bless the Marines. All of them.

Thanks. For all of them.

Does anyone know how many K-9 soldiers are serving in Iraq? And how many have been killed or wounded?

Poor puppies. The humans know what they are getting into, but a dog can't understand.

My heart bleeds for the young Marine who lost his partner. I can imagine the sorrow of losing my own dog, and his was, I must admit, a far more noble beast, so perhaps it would hurt more.

Aw, damn...

Rest, Marine, job well done.

Maybe its the Marine dogs that get to be the guards on the rainbow bridge, eh?

People are looking at me funny now, since I'm sittin' here in a bar with a laptop and my eyes are all wet.

It's nice to read a story like this today since my wonderful dog of 12 years died yesterday.

I fly into Baghdad almost every night, but this night's mission was a special ASR (assault support request).

A Marine K-9 had been killed and another dog wounded earlier in the day and we were going there to pick up the dead K-9, the wounded K-9 and their Marine handlers. How these Marines were attacked, whether in contact with insurgents, a sniper or an improvised explosive device (IED), we never knew.
